SINGLE REVIEW | ADAM THOMAS HUGHES – THE LONG WAY HOME By Keira Knox 4/5

The highly anticipated debut track The Long Way Home by Adam Thomas Hughes, a young Newton-le-Willows singer-songwriter who is making waves with support from fellow musicians The K’s and Alex Spencer, is influenced by the sounds and styles of Sam Fender and The 1975. The track gained wide recognition following Hughes’ impromptu performance at Newton Music Festival, alongside artists like The Lottery Winners, The Rolling People and The K’s!

Since he began performing live in 2023, the 18-year-old has received incredible reviews for his performances throughout Merseyside and the Northwest. ‘The Long Way Home’ is the epitome of indie pop! The track’s power pop arrangement, featuring Adam on guitar and vocals, Will Crump on bass, lead guitar, and backing vocals, and Dan Bretherton on drums, hammers home the evidently relatable emotions of choosing a different direction and being left behind. It’s one of those tracks that you can listen to in any situation: it’s very much like Sam Fender in that sense, no matter how heart-breaking and vulnerable the lyrics may be, those powerful guitar riffs are certain to get you up on your feet!

The Newton, Leigh, Lowton, and Wigan area’s music scene is thriving at the minute and Hughes is set to play a part in this new wave of upcoming talent. Local favourites The K’s and The Lottery Winners from nearby Leigh are both killing it at festivals throughout Europe this year. The Stanleys and The Lathums, two Wigan bands, hail from the same region of the United Kingdom. A scene that appears to be reviving recently, in part due to the Newton Music Festival’s 20-year rebirth and the series of concerts held at Wigan’s Robin Park.

For fans of The 1975, Bleachers and Wallows, this track is for you!
