Lacuna Coil Delight Their Scottish Fans with a Lively Glasgow Headline Show
LIVE REVIEW | LACUNA COIL w/ Blind Channel | GLASGOW SWG3 21/10/24 by Morgan Hermiston
Beginning a night of rock and multiple mosh pits were Blind Channel. The Finnish nu metal group sparked curiosity from new fans, and furthered admiration from existing ones. Their energy on stage unfortunately wasn’t entirely reflected by the Glasgow crowd. While the odd few threw themselves about a particularly small mosh pit, the majority of the SWG3 crowd stood still. However, it was a Monday night, and I don’t think the lack of enthusiasm could have been changed by Blind Channel, they were a pleasure to see otherwise.
When they weren’t performing originals such as ‘Dark Side‘ which was their 2021 Eurovision Song Contest entry, Blind Channel showed their vibrant variety in tastes with a number of covers. This included Backstreet Boys’ ‘Everybody‘ and ‘Baby One More Time‘ by Britney Spears. Blind Channel are definitely a band I’d see again, but perhaps in a crowd that appreciates and gives back a similar level of energy as Blind Channel put in.
Headliners Lacuna Coil appeared on stage to the sound of applaud and cheers from the packed out room. Opening with ‘Blood, Tears, Dust‘ from their “Delirium” album, Lacuna Coil began their show as they meant to go on, with the utmost of energy and passion. Alongside tracks from this 2016 album, the group provided fans new and old with performances of tracks all the way up to 2024 material. This ranged from ‘Reckless‘, taken from 2019 record “Black Anima“, to ‘Entwined XX‘ and ‘Heaven’s a Lie XX‘, songs from 2022 release “Comalies XX“.
Their most recent material involves collaboration with other big names in rock and metal. Lacuna Coil performed two collaborative tracks, ‘In The Mean Time‘, which features Ash Costello [New Years Day], and ‘Hosting the Shadow‘, a song with Randy Blythe [Lamb of God]. Belting out impressive vocals, and utilising the stage to their advantage worked wonders for them. The lighting and visual effects accompanying them provided a production to admire, something to watch while you heard adoring fans singing along with every word. This was particularly evident with their cover of Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy the Silence‘, with many gasping in excitement when they realised which song it was.
Both Blind Channel and Lacuna Coil are bands I’d love to catch in a live setting again. Lacuna Coil certainly had their energy and effort reflected back to them, even on a mundane Monday like this one. It’s impossible to deny that both bands brought their impressive musical talents to life, and it was incredible to see this come alive. It’s not my usual choice of music to go and see, but a choice I’d make again in a heartbeat.
