MELODIC PUNKS ‘DROP IT FIRST’ DELIVER SECOND BLISTERING SONG AHEAD OF DEBUT ALBUM

SINGLE REVIEW | Drop It First – Strong From Within | by Craig Harston

Forming in 2023 and featuring members of Our Darkest Days, Go Great Guns and Persistence, Quebec City’s Drop It First are due to drop their debut album, ‘Fundamentals’ in early 2025. First single ‘Where The Wind Blows’ has been out in the world for a short while now and is a excellent melodic hardcore song. Follow up single ‘Strong From Within’ follows suit, delivering an assault on the ears for an absolutely relentless 4 minutes and 5 seconds.

The song kicks into gear quickly, not wasting any time before drummer Jo Thivierge’s thundering drums kick in, accompanied by a beefy, borderline metal guitar riff. Vince Fournier’s furious vocals then join, delivering lyrics about trying to take your life back and having the inner strength to do this (“Sick and tired of just another day, sick and tired, it’s hard to break free; I won’t give in, I’m strong from within; I’m winning, I’m winning my life back”).

As well as the excellent drums, Fournier is given great back up from lead guitarist Maxime Larouche, bassist Jam Gosselin and guitarist Mathieu Hébert and the song features not one but two fantastic bridges throughout it’s runtime! It’s an explosive tune, filled with great riffs and empowering themes.

Based on the two tracks Drop It First have already released, their debut album is shaping up to be a great start to the punk scene in 2025 and the Canadians are going to be one to watch in the new year!

‘Fundamentals’ releases on January 17th 2025 through Thousand Island Records and is available to pre-order here
