THIS FEELING REWIRED | CAMARADERIE AND NEW MUSIC, DIRTY BLONDE INTERVIEW

The creation of Dirty Blondes new single Adore Me was fuelled by simultaneous breakups experienced by band members Hayley and Ailis. The emotional aftermath of these events quickly shaped the song. “It came about really quickly after we were both feeling angry about relationships we were in that ended at the same time,” they shared. “It was our way of venting to each other and getting it all out of our system. Thankfully, that song was the outcome, which we’re really glad about!”
The song showcases a blend of raw vulnerability and fiery defiance, culminating in a track that is both emotional and unapologetic. “I think we wanted to highlight the vulnerable and emotional side of the song, whilst also making sure the angst and anger came across too. Ultimately, it ended up being this sassy, fiery song where you realise you won’t take sh*t from anyone,” the band revealed.
Adore Me seamlessly merges grunge and pop influences, a hallmark of Dirty Blonde’s sound that reflects their individual tastes. Hayley brings a love for ‘90s indie classics to the table, while Ailis is deeply influenced by pop music. “We always naturally have that fusion in our music, and it definitely comes down to our own individual influences. We both love the same types of music, but Hayley is really big into ‘90s indie classics, and Ailis is massively into pop music. It always comes out in our sound. We’ve embraced the chaos of it to bring that unique Dirty Blonde sound.”
The song’s release precedes the band’s upcoming EP Looking for Trouble, out April 17th, and it holds a special place within the project. “‘Adore Me’ is definitely the emotional ballad of the EP, similar to Don’t Cry (It Doesn’t Suit You) from our debut EP. Lyrically, it really shows our raw and honest side,” the band explained.
Dirty Blonde hopes listeners will take away a message of strength and self-empowerment from Adore Me. “We hope fans take away that it’s okay to be sad, but equally, you’re a sassy b*tch and you’ve got this.”
The band is gearing up to headline This Feeling’s Rewired Festival this week, marking their first live performance since opening for Louis Tomlinson. “We can’t wait! It will be our first show back after opening up for Louis Tomlinson, and we’re so ready for it. We’ve prepped all the hits and maybe a couple of new ones,” they shared with excitement.
This year’s Rewired Festival brings together an impressive lineup, and Dirty Blonde is thrilled to share the stage with fellow acts. “We absolutely love all of the acts playing at this year’s Rewired Festival. We played with Alright a couple of months ago when we were both opening for Pastel, and they had an unreal stage presence and really got the crowd going. Our all-time bestie, Megan Wyn, is playing too, who we absolutely love. She’s basically the third member of Dirty Blonde.”
Dirty Blonde’s live performances are known for their high-energy, personal connection with audiences. “Performing live is what we’re here for. Our live shows are massively different to our recordings because we’re able to really engage with the audience on a personal level. Ailis often starts the opening song from the crowd, which starts the set off super intimately. Ailis also uses a standing-up drum rack live, which really ups the energy of the live shows.”
Fans attending Rewired Festival are in for a treat, as Adore Me will feature prominently in their set alongside a surprise guest. “We’ve played Adore Me a few times now, and we love playing it live. We’ll be playing it at Rewired, which will be the first time we’ve played it since it’s been released. We’ve got a special guest coming up to perform this one with us for this show, too. It’s always a good feeling when you play a song after it’s been released, and you see people singing the lyrics back to you.”
Looking ahead, Dirty Blonde is ready to embrace 2025 with new surprises and projects. Their second EP Looking for Trouble drops April 17th, and fans can expect even more in the near future. “Our second EP, Looking for Trouble, is coming out on the 17th April! We may have an exciting physical format of it coming soon too…”
With their bold sound, raw honesty, and undeniable charm, Dirty Blonde continues to prove why they’re one of the most exciting names in music right now.
