THE ANCHORESS ANNOUNCES UPCOMING UK DATES AND LEEDS SHOW THIS SUNDAY

Welsh musician and multi-instrumentalist The Anchoress (Catherine Anne Davies) has thrilled fans by revealing a string of live UK shows, performing new songs from her forthcoming third studio album later in the autumn. In tandem with the excitement of the live shows, Catherine has signed a new record deal with Glasgow label Last Night From Glasgow, re-releasing her previously limited mini-album Communion on 25th April 2025. With two celebrated studio albums under her belt, she’s earned praise from icons like The Cure’s Robert Smith, Caitlin Moran, and Elton John, who hailed her Top 40 album The Art of Losing as “one of my favourite records of the year.” Twice nominated for the Welsh Music Prize, The Anchoress’ signature blend of melancholic guitar anthems and “swaggering synth-pop” (Uncut) continues to captivate audiences. Her recent covers collection, Versions, featuring reimagined tracks by Radiohead, REM, and Nirvana, was described as “spine-tingling” by BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins and “beguiling and insightful” by The Sunday Times. A frequent collaborator with artists like Manic Street Preachers, Simple Minds, and Bernard Butler, The Anchoress brings literate, baroque songwriting to the forefront of modern indie music.
Sunday, 20th April, is a tour highlight date when she performs in Leeds at the Old Woollen, taking her music to Yorkshire audiences as part of a hectic 2025 itinerary. The Leeds gig comes on the back of two special gigs in London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 18th and 19th of April, when Catherine supports the Manic Street Preachers.

The Leeds crowd can look forward to hearing new material from Catherine’s third album, as well as tracks from the upcoming reissue of Communion. First recorded in a single day with an all-female string trio in London’s Church Studios, Communion is released here for the first time on vinyl, pressed in marbled white and marbled purple-coloured bio-vinyl editions.
Looking back on the Communion journey, Catherine says,
“I’m so excited to see Communion finally get a proper release after originally selling handfuls of handmade copies over the counter at Rough Trade. Now I’ve been lucky enough to find my lovely new label home in the form of Last Night From Glasgow – a “not for profit label” with an ethical framework at the very heart of what they do, and a passion for vinyl that surpasses even my own. It was important to me that the people I would be working with for the next chapter of The Anchoress put ethics at the very centre of how they operated“
Ian Smith, Managing Director of LNFG said:
“We were sick and tired of everything when we founded Last Night From Glasgow, The industry was, and remains upside down. Money flowing away from the very people who matter the most – the songwriters and performers. LNFG has built a community that understands the importance of patronage and as such we are able to provide significant logistical and financial support to artists. We are thrilled beyond words that The Anchoress has chosen LNFG as her home and we hope it remains so for a very long time.”
Next, the Anchoress play Leeds, then Deaf Institute, Manchester on the 23rd, the Philharmonic Hall Music Room, Liverpool, 24th, and a run of summer and early autumn shows in June right through to November that also includes both Cardiff and London’s Union Chapel.
Coming straight from a blistering headline tour that won raves in The Mail on Sunday and Yorkshire Post, Catherine Anne Davies enchants audiences with poignant and inspiring musical artistry. The Leeds show offers the chance to see her live magic up close in small, intimate settings, and to behold the artistry of one of the UK’s most innovative and acclaimed indie musicians.
Don’t miss Sunday’s Leeds performance at the Old Woollen and the chance to catch Catherine playing new songs and old fan favourites from her critically acclaimed back catalogue. Tickets are available now here for what promises to be an unmissable experience of musical performance by an award-winning act who continues to make waves in the UK.
