BBC RADIO 1 BIG WEEKEND LIVERPOOL | SATURDAY

Liverpool is gearing up for its first ever BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend hosted in the music city. Liverpool ONE is painted with posters of our favourite artists set to play Sefton Park, and everyone and their neighbour who missed out on the high-demand tickets is looking for them. An affordable, community driven festival, featuring some of the biggest names in music right now – get down there if you can.
36,000 people each day of the festival are heading for the gorgeous Liverpool grounds. Only Friday tickets are available now, so if you want to be all ears for this unmissable lineup, then act quickly.
I’m heading down to catch the Saturday, with family favourite Sam Fender headlining, the whole city is going to be bouncing.
The BBC Introducing stage will be spilling with upcoming talent, including Liverpool’s very own Luvcat who I’ve been itching to see live. The introducing stage hones and nurtures the next biggest names in music, and I’m excited to stumble across a new obsession.
The Radio 1 Dance Stage will see many of BBC’s familiar DJ faces, alongside the rising Charlotte Plank who will undoubtedly get the busy field grooving.
Saturday’s New Music Stage will see Inhaler guide us to the sunset – a set that I don’t doubt will be packed since their release of ‘Open Wide’ in February. Headlining the stage is a set with plenty of of hype around it – Aitch B2B AJ Tracey. With countless tunes for the due to spin and mix, there’s no doubt the crowd will be dancing straight from the bar over to them.
BBC has crafted a gorgeous lineup on the Main Stage. Kicking off the day is Tom Odell and Sugababes with all of their nostalgic hits. Myles Smith will see us through the (hopefully sunny) afternoon with his summertime voice. Between each set is Radio 1’s very own treating us to Pop, Dance and Party anthems to keep us moving all day long. The evening has been crafted in what could only be an Indie lover’s dream – Blossoms, Wolf Alice, and Sam Fender.
With Blossoms’ ‘Gary’, Wolf Alice’s newly released ‘Bloom Baby Bloom’, and Fender’s ‘People Watching’, BBC Radio 1 have packed their evening with fresh tunes that Liverpool’s music-driven crowd are itching to celebrate.
Greg James is about and giving listeners the opportunity to win tickets every day leading up to the festival – tune in and see if it’s you.
If you’re heading down, be sure to download the BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend Liverpool App, where you can find any information you need: accessibility, travel, maps – it’s all there. You can even create your own lineup on the helpfully laid out schedule. Keep an eye out on Northern Exposure’s socials to see what we get up to on the day.
