Last night we headed along to London’s Elephants Head to catch a glimpse of one of the capitals most exciting young artists, Matt-Felix. The new-gen indie musician seems to be creating quite a buzz on the live scene and we can see why. Managed by Oasis’ management team, the Anglo-French heritage youngster continues to turn heads, including ours at Northern Exposure.
His recent single ‘Cold With Desire’ is his second release since November’s debut EP Kingdom of You & Me and is one of his strongest yet. On the single, Matt shares:
“Cold With Desire is different to anything I’ve done before, and I love it for that reason. I initially wrote it without an instrument, just by singing the melody acapella. I then started to layer it with a drum machine and synths, the bass line was the last thing I added to it. Which is strange as it’s the main focus of the whole song. It’s a song about uncertainty, and about not knowing where you stand.”
Matt-Felix is set to open for Razorlight in Darlington this August, but he no stranger to bigger crowds having previously performed at Victorious and All Points East Festival’s last year. Last night though, Matt performed on the smallest of small stages and it was larger than life. Squeezed in alongside 4 other band members, the Elephants Head mat have been a bit of a squash, but only amplified the energy of his performance. This artist won’t be playing small stages for much longer.
