St. Vincent wrapped up her All Born Screaming European tour with an “intimate performance” at London’s Somerset House as part of their Summer Series.
Opening for the Texas native were Brooklyn’s art-punkers Gustaf:
St. Vincent is well known for her various eras, from the latex-dominatrix era of MASSEDUCTION to the 70s’ funk throwback era of Daddy’s Home. All Born Screaming has her embracing a harder, grungier sound; and in this era St. Vincent is embodying an artist on the edge of a breakdown, dissolving into maddness on stage.
Between the heavy rockers, St Vincent adressed the crowd in sweeping statements breating the general “fucked” nature of society today. She closed each interlude with a message of thanks and hope, that getting together on evenings like this is, if not a solution, at least a salve. “I have hope, that’s not a thing that comes easily. I have hope. We get to travel the world and be together…. which is at its core, even if it’s angry, it’s joyful. So thank you. That’s all.”
St. Vincent returns to London on 3rd September for a unique one-off performance at Royal Albert Hall, performing with Jules Buckley and his orchestra as part of BBC Proms. You can learn more and buy tickets here.
