EP REVIEW | JASMIN JET – TRUST THE PROCESS by Anne Kelly

I first came across the wonderfully talented Jasmin Jet a few years back when she played Falkirk‘sVibration Festival. Held in the heart of Scotland’s central belt, the festival placed Jasmin in good company, performing alongside other local breakout talent such as Brogeal, Silvi and Dictator all on the same stage that day. I only caught the very tail end of her set, but it was enough for me to take notice and hit the follow button on my way home. That was summer 2022. Four years later, the rising star has finally released her debut single ‘drama queen’, quickly followed by her first EP, trust the process which is out now.

Four years is a long time to be grafting behind the scenes, but Jasmin Jet has been very busy – not only creatively, but living life, building experience that feeds right into this debut project. A five-track diary entry style pop record, trust the process captures the turbulent journey of self acceptance. Exploring themes of dependency, doubt and denial, the EP ultimately lands in a place of hope, purpose and clarity – all whilst remaining an upbeat anthemic sing-a-long pop record in the process.

Combining big, soulful vocals akin to Olivia Dean with the glittering, high-energy 80s-inspired production of Chappell Roan, her debut EP is a masterclass in modern pop versatility. It is a collection of tracks brimming with effortless confidence, massive choruses, and undeniable charisma that signals the arrival of a major talent.

Jasmin Jet (Courteney Pearson/Northern Exposure)

The journey begins with the opening track, ‘little love’ which beautifully balances emotional vulnerability with a sharp edge. Lyrically, it leans into a deep longing for affection but anchored by the deeply relatable frustration of hating that she has to ask for it in the first place. It’s a beautifully nuanced introduction that sets a powerful, honest tone for the project.

From there, Jasmin pivots brilliantly into ‘drama queen an instant synth-pop standout. Driven by a massive, nostalgic production reminiscent of Tiffany paired with the pure pop charisma of Kylie, this track is an absolute triumph. Looking back at her teenage self – a version who was bullied and mocked for being her unfiltered, ambitious self – the song serves as the ultimate vindication. Having first heard this live during February’s Northern Exposure Live, I can admit that those infectious melodic hooks and unapologetic attitude will simply never leave your head.

The EP then shifts gears with ‘classy woman’ which delivers a flirtier, soul-infused vibe. Here, Jasmin channels jazz-leaning rhythms that echo the style of Raye, while retaining her signature high-pop energy. Delivered with an organic, natural confidence, it proves she can groove just as effortlessly as she can belt. That vocal prowess is put on full display in neo soul ballad, ‘too late to change. Stripping away the high-tempo synths, the track showcases the deeper, commanding reach of Jasmin’s voice, radiating an effortless grace.

Finally, the project closes out with ‘sweet blissa straight-up synth-pop banger. This is a certified, floor-filling anthem designed to get people moving, and it serves as the perfect final exclamation point to demonstrate her incredible versatility.

It’s been a long time coming, but Jasmin Jet’s debut EP was well worth the wait. She has used the last few years to refine her craft into something worthy of national success – a journey that has already seen her win the Greene King Untapped Talent competition (judged by Eurovision runner-up Sam Ryder and McFly’s Danny Jones) and score a feature in Rolling Stone Magazine. The final product is cohesive and fluent throughout, delivering a strong, unified persona that resonates with young listeners everywhere. A superstar in the making, Jasmin Jet is the pop girly we should all be showing up for this year.
