MORBIDITY MEETS A NEW MELODY IN DAYTIME TV’S LATEST SINGLE

If you had one last day on Earth, what would you do with it? If your answer was anything remotely related to partying or having a good time, then let DAYTIME TV‘s latest single ‘Creatures‘ be the soundtrack. Contrasting with earlier release ‘Sun‘, but providing an elevated extension to ‘Pause‘, this latest single is an exciting look at what’s next for DAYTIME TV.
This newest addition to an already impressive discography was penned as a “playful look at mortality“, after frontman Will Irvine‘s recovery from a life-threatening illness. The morbid essence of this is meticulously merged with a melody that you will not forget anytime soon. This is created by John Caddick on guitar, bassist Naomi Boschetti, and drummer Gareth Thompson.
“This is where I wanna be found when I drop dead” and “this is where I wanna be found when the world ends” are the lyrics that encapsulate the whole energy of the track.
The morbidity surrounding an unfortunate close call is masked with electronic notions and a dancefloor dynamic that you can’t help but love. ‘Creatures‘ feels like a musical manifestation of a rave, which is how Irvine described what he’d want a potential final day on Earth to look like.
The alternative aspects hone in on a heavier side to the Edinburgh and London based band, nurturing an atmosphere of nobility and strength in overcoming huge health hurdles. This strength extends into the formidable ability to bend genres to work for them.
The band’s rejuvenated mood follows an awakening surrounding the trivial nature of some anxieties, and the importance of living for the moment, something which is portrayed perfectly in this song. If we only get to live once, we should be living it like the party that ‘Creatures‘ depicts.
Upon my first listen to it, I heard a lot of Royal Blood energy. Initially, I thought this was simply both wishful thinking, and impeccable timing. However if, like me, you’re a fan, the track was produced by Pete Hutchings, who has worked with Royal Blood. While you can hear an array of abstract influences, ‘Creatures‘ is a track that is definitely distinct to DAYTIME TV.
