RISING SCOTTISH STARLET ROBIN ASHCROFT RELEASES NEW TRACK ‘STAY’
Recently signing to Modern Sky‘s sister label Run on Records is Glasgow starlet Robin Ashcroft. Known locally for her big voice and nifty headwear, Robin has been a frequent on the Glasgow live scene from a very early age. By the time she was 13, she was performing alongside people more than twice her age during open mic nights at the city’s iconic King Tuts.
This week, the fresh faced singer releases her first ‘official’ single ‘Stay‘ (April 18th). Having released a trio of demo’s last year which gained airplay across BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Introducing, Robin couldn’t be more ready to open the next chapter in her story.
Recorded by John Kettle (The Lathums), ‘Stay‘ is the first time Robin collaborated with another writer. She says, “I sent a Soundcloud to the producer of various things I’d been working on. They picked out a song I wrote when I was thirteen, which shocked me, but they said there was something pure in the emotion of it. We worked on it and brought it into the present.”
Robin’s team elaborate to say that ‘Stay‘ is not just a song; “it’s a narrative woven with the threads of raw emotion. It’s a plea, a cry and a whisper all rolled into one, echoing the words we’ve all yearned to say: ‘Stay!’“
‘Stay‘ comes complete with an accompanying music video which premiers alongside the single release today. Directed by Hope Simmers, the videographer shares, “When I first heard the song I was so excited for the project as I really felt the emotion behind it- this was something I believed I hadn’t conveyed in my work yet so it was a great opportunity for me to go a bit deeper than usual. I’ve lost count the amount of times I’ve listened to the song now, but if you want to take the experience to the next level I really recommend getting it on in the car and turn that volume UP!“
Signing to Run on Records – the label which is home to the likes of The Coral, The Royston Club and fellow rising Scottish Sweetheart Rianne Downey – has actually been on the back burner for some years now.
“My management felt that I was too young to sign to a record label. At that point I hadn’t done many gigs and they felt I should develop a bit more in my own time“, explains Robin, who was initially approached by the label on 2019. Now aged 20, with nearly a decade worth of experience under her belt, it’s never been a better time for Robin to spread her wings.
