Introduce yourselves…
Televised Mind are Ste Walker, Lloyd Hubbard, Luke Smith and Jonathon Gittens (don’t call him Jonathon XD). We met in the Lincoln music scene in recent years and hit it off over our mutual love of indie music
How would you describe your music?
We play a blend of more aggressive, darker, punkier tunes as well as lighter, more upbeat indie bangers. We’re renowned for lyrical prowess, catchy hooks and engaging live performances.
Do you have any new music coming out? Tell me all about it…
Oxygen Thieves was released yesterday. It’s a real headbanger and explores themes of self-awareness, self-esteem and self-preservation and touches on the fate of humanity. It’s Ste’s not so subtle way of telling people who complain about things that they can’t or won’t change, to politely shut up and get on with it.
If you had the opportunity to write an album other than your own, which would it have be and why?
Silent Alarm – Bloc Party
Never heard anything like it before or since
Could you tell me which of your own songs is your favourite?
So far, it would have to be ‘You Don’t Know Me’ as it has became a cult hit in our native Lincoln. It was written in less than 20 minutes. Sometimes we throw in an Eminem lyric live which goes down a storm.
What’s your current favourite song from someone else?
Starburster – Fontaines DC
What venue is your dream to play?
In the short term, Rock City would suit our sound. Loud as hell. Beyond that, Wembley and the likes.
What would be your most controversial opinion on anything?
Ste has written a song that includes lyrics about not wanting kids. It’s a regular part of our current set but as people are bopping their heads along to it they have no idea what he’s talking about.
Where is the best pint or pub for that matter in the world?
Gittens loves Rough Trade and was over the moon when we got to write our band name on the wall in the venue. Ste likes a Fosters shandy. Lloyd is on the Guinness and Luke never buys you one back XD.
Beatles or Stones?
Stones.
Best UK festival and are you playing any festivals?
It’s a toss up between Leeds and Glastonbury – our memories of them from down the years are all a bit of a blur and merged into one.
We expect to be playing festivals in the near future.
Are you playing any gigs? Where and when?
Most recently we headlined The Dublin Castle in Camden, as well as The Fiddler’s Elbow and The Finsbury. Now we’re taking a short break until July when we return to Record Junkee in Sheffield, not long after the band’s first birthday.
Future plans?
Write tunes that people can relate to and play them for the masses.
