“THERE IS ONLY ONE BAND THAT CAN TAKE THE NAME ‘GARY’ FOR AN ALBUM (AND TITLE TRACK) AND MAKE IT SO UNBELIEVABLY COOL” | NEW SINGLE BY BLOSSOMS

SINGLE REVIEW | BLOSSOMS – GARY by Keira Knox

Let’s be honest, there is only one band that can take the name ‘Gary’ for an album and title track and make it so unbelievably cool!

In addition to publishing the video for the album’s title tune, which features a second appearance by firm favourite, Sean Dyche, Blossoms have also exclusively revealed information about their upcoming fifth album, “Gary.” The album is produced by Josh-Lloyd Watson of Jungle and James Skelly of The Coral, who collectively worked with Blossoms on the tracks ‘What Can I Say After I’m Sorry?‘ and ‘Nightclub‘. Indie-country icon, CMAT, also paired up with the band to co-write both ‘I Like Your Look‘ and ‘Why Do I Give You The Worst Of Me?

Title track ‘Gary‘ is the most recent release from the album. Although this album appears to represent a modest stylistic departure for the lads who have spent the last ten years perfecting their 80s-inspired indie sound, the released tunes are nonetheless unbelievably catchy and unmistakably Blossoms. This song’s lyrical storytelling is skillfully employed to lead listeners on a voyage of discovery, and it mirrors the plot presented in the music videos for ‘Gary‘ and ‘What Can I Say After I’m Sorry?

Speaking about the title track, lead singer Tom Ogden stated: “The song itself is the centrepiece of the album and after toying with different titles, we kept going back to Gary. In the end, it could only be ‘Gary’.”

In a similar fashion to that of the album’s first single release ‘What Can I Say After I’m Sorry?‘, the music video is all anyone can talk about. With their new album, Blossoms seem to have mastered the craft of storytelling through both visual and lyrical means. Returning to his role as a criminal leader, Sean Dyche assigns the band the mission of looting a nearby garden centre of an eight-foot fibreglass gorilla. In addition, 80’s legend Rick Astley plays Andrew Scott, the proprietor of the garden centre, in the video.

Blossoms have truly raised the bar with the singles released from the upcoming album, I cannot wait to see how this storyline develops and unravels throughout the album’s track list.

The announcement of ‘Gary‘ arrives as the band are preparing to play a huge homecoming show at Manchester’s Wythenshawe Park this summer with support from the likes of Inhaler, Shed Seven and The K’s. Additionally, Blossoms will perform at the Isle Of Wight Festival, TRNSMT, and the Malta Weekender with Liam Gallagher & Friends. They are scheduled to open for Tom Grennan during his performance in Gunnersbury Park, London, in August.
