FEET’S LATEST OFFERING ‘MAKE IT UP’

‘THE SENSATIONAL SOPHOMORE ALBUM FOR EXPERIMENTAL INDIE QUINTET’

ALBUM REVIEW AND EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH GEORGE HAVERSON

After a rise to fame in 2019 following their debut album ‘What’s Inside Is More Than Just Ham’, Feet have found themselves at what appeared to be a minor standstill for the last five years, however after incredibly successful tours with the like of Dublin’s Inhaler and Aussies’ Psychedelic Porn Crumpets throughout this period – Feet are back better than ever with their sophomore offering ‘Make It Up’.

Whilst retaining their quintessentially unique sound, that appeals to lovers of all from psychedelic 70s rock to new-wave 80s. Radio 6’s Steve Lamacq describing their 2022 single ‘Can’t Get In‘ as “Surprisingly seventies” saying “I think you could easily pass that off as a1978 new-wave record. I suspect it’s one that might grow and grow over the coming weeks.” However, whilst pleasing their fans with their carefully crafted studio sound – Feet are most well-known for their both incredibly chaotic and enjoyable live shows, with them landing gigs over the years, supporting The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park BST and Tame Impala at All Points East – not mentioning their surplus festival appearances over the last two years including YNOT, The Great Escape, Truck Festival and a second appearance at All Points East with The Strokes.

Taking the time to speak to me on the record, frontman George Haverson says ‘We actually named the album after we wrote it, the name of the album was months in the making after we’d actually finished it. Because I guess when you’re that close to something, it’s quite hard to you know fully understand what it is, what it’s about, cause you’re just doing it, you know.’

‘We just kind of came to the conclusion that maybe something within the name had to kind of symbolise where we were at. Because like you said, it’s been 5 years since we’ve released a body of music and where the band is now and how we’ve put ourselves forward is different to back then.’

It is of no surprise that Feet’s newest work fluctuates throughout all the emotions – differing to their debut album, Make It Up contains a wider variety of tracks, including ‘Truly Awful‘ and ‘Goodbye (So Long, Farewell)‘ that solidify a more vulnerable side to the band within their songwriting and musicianship, with George saying “I’d be quite worried if we hadn’t matured over the last 5 years” suggesting that whilst the fun, chaotic side of the band showcased through their theatrical music videos and playful performances still very much lives on through Make It Up, the record evaluates a greater range of emotions and is arguably a more well-rounded album than their previous.

Singles such as ‘The Real Thing’, ‘Sit Down’ and ‘Greasy Boy’ encapsulate the iconic “rockier” sound of Feet, a sound George describes as being essential to releasing in support of the album campaign when appealing to a “heavier” audience on tour with punk band the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. However, tracks such as ‘Truly Awful’ and ‘Goodbye (So Long, Farewell)‘ take on a more intimate approach to songwriting and a gentler sound musically – giving the album a greater depth, relatability and appeal to audiences. Make It Up has it all.

Releasing their sophomore album Make It Up the 14th June 2024, the record will be available on all streaming platforms and available to purchase in a variety of physical formats.

Feet embark on a number of in-store dates on their record store tour in support of the album campaign, also taking on their first UK headline tour in years at the end of 2024. They are not ones to miss.
