‘A TRUE SPECTACLE OF SHOWMANSHIP’ – ROBBIE WILLIAMS DELIVERS A HYDE PARK SHOW TO REMEMBER

This weekend, British pop legend, Robbie Williams delivered a true spectacle of showmanship. Up against 65,000 fans at London’s popular Hyde Park BST concert series; the man knew his audience precisely and
exactly how to draw them through his 2 hours of masterful grip theatrics. His fans adore him and he without a doubt adores his fans – perhaps as much as he adores himself…

I’ll be honest, I was never a huge fan of Robbie Williams, but my attitude towards the former
Take That wonderboy has completely shifted since attending his headline performance at
Hyde Park BST. Before dawning on stage, the anticipation was afoot. You could feel the fans’ excitement from 2 tube stops away as Mums draped head to toe in full Robbie kit drowned in prosecco in anticipation of what’s to come. Admittedly the “Make Robbie Great Again” red skip hats did cause some double takes, but Hyde Park was heaving and the crowd were buzzing for the national treasure to take the stage, which he did in typical Robbie style. With a pin he popped the crowd like a balloon filled with exhilaration. Opening with ‘Let Me Entertain You‘ from his 1997 debut solo studio album, Robbie sets the mood for this fun filled performance to come.

Strapping Hyde Park in the passenger seat of a ridiculously flashy car, Robbie embarks on his 34 year journey which he personally described as “Therapy for me, entertainment for you.” No matter if you were Robbie Williams’ number 1 fan or you’d been dragged along by your wife, the addition of lyrics on the mega screen ensured everyone’s ability to belt out a bit of Robbie.

Paying homage to his Take That years, Williams possess a very good sense of humour towards the boyband he was kicked out of. Conveying a hint of maturity towards the topic he jokes, “It’s okay, I was about to write Angels”.

Robbie then made a 90’s Britpop pit stop by giving the crowd his rendition of Oasis classic ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger‘ before bringing out Gaz Coombes for the Supergrass hit ‘Alright‘. What came next however was the biggest surprise by far when Williams bringing out cockney royalty, Danny Dyer to perform Blur‘s ‘Parklife‘ – something that was not on anyone’s bingo card for 2024. Concluding the britpop bombardment with 3 words – “Unbelievably f***ing fun” the legendary pop star perfectly summed up the atmosphere tonight.

Robbie Williams performed a stellar setlist, with anthem following hit, followed by absolute
tune. The crowd sounded phenomenal and Robbie sounded even better. After 2 hours the night concluded with ‘Angels‘ which accompanied by dazzling fireworks left Hyde Park satisfied beyond belief. Robbie Williams is an artist who despite his cementation into stardom and lengthy period serving pop culture still has an absolute blast of a time on stage and at the end of the day that is what live music is all about.
