SONGS FOR THE SPINE: THE ROYSTON CLUB RISE TO NEW HEIGHTS

After making waves with their debut album and securing a number 16 chart breakthrough, The Royston Club are shifting gears in 2025, setting their sights on an even bigger future. On 8 August, the Wrexham quartet will release their highly anticipated sophomore album, Songs For The Spine, a bold, more ambitious offering that builds on their early sonic identity while pushing into new creative territory. Talking to Keira Knox earlier this year, the band teased the album release, you can read the full interview here.

Marking this exciting new chapter, the band has also unveiled their latest single, Glued To The Bed, alongside details of their biggest UK headline tour to date. With their largest London show yet at the O2 Forum Kentish Town and a string of major festival appearances, The Royston Club are proving that a great debut will get you noticed but it’s the next steps that truly count.
Since their rise in the UK indie scene, the band, consisting of Tom Faithfull (vocals/guitar), Ben Matthias (guitar), Dave Tute (bass) and Sam Jones (drums) haveu cultivated a devoted following. Their sound, reminiscent of The 1975’s early years, has captivated fans across the country, with sold-out shows signalling their growing momentum. And now, Songs For The Spine promises to take them even further.
Produced by Rich Turvey, known for his work with Blossoms and Rachel Chinouriri, the album captures the raw energy of the band’s live shows while expanding their sonic palette. Recent singles, Shivers and The Patch Where Nothing Grows, have already hinted at this evolution, offering songs that resonate both personally and universally. Matthias describes the album as being about people and places they love, blending nostalgia, relationships and even the small quirks of life, like returning home to Wrexham and realising the speed limits had changed.
Their latest single, Glued To The Bed, bridges the gap between their debut and this new sound. Premiered by Huw Stephens at 6 Music, the track launches with an instantly addictive guitar riff, driving rhythms and a melody that’s simultaneously gritty and sweet. Exploring heartbreak and the bittersweet tug-of-war between love and loss, the song reflects the emotional turbulence that fuels much of the new record.
Love can be thrilling, dark and ultimately disappointing, Matthias explains, but inevitably, we still want to give it another shot.
Alongside the album, The Royston Club are gearing up for a landmark UK headline tour this autumn, which includes their biggest-ever London show at the O2 Forum Kentish Town. Prior to that, they’ll be hitting major festival stages across Europe, opening for heavyweights like The Lathums, Bloc Party and Travis.
