60 SECONDS WITH THE GREATER GOOD
INTERVIEW
This week, alternative rock group The Greater Good, celebrated by Clash, Dork, BBC Introducing, and Spotify, unveiled their new single, ‘Stupid Game, Stupid Prize‘. The song takes a bold and honest look at themes of self-destruction and emotional chaos, capturing the ups and downs of human vulnerability. With its compelling lyrics and energetic rock sound, this track is sure to resonate with their ever-growing fanbase. Just ahead of the release, we got to know the band a little better
What inspired the creation of your latest single, ‘Stupid Game, Stupid Prize’?
This song is about the cyclical nature of self-destruction and the push-pull between wanting to change and giving into bad habits. The effect it has on mental health and relationships really urged us to write about the topic.
Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your sound?
It’s quite varied but we blend a mixture of alt rock with disco/ electronic influences. Cage The Elephant, Kasabian, Queens of The Stone Age to name a few.
What do you hope listeners take away from your music?
We hope they resonate with the words and the energy of the music. We hope they can relate to our own experiences and want to wack it on everyday.
What has been the most memorable moment of your career so far?
Certainly a number of festival stages we have played. When you have a packed out tent, great weather and the energy is in the right place there’s nothing better!
What’s the most unexpected or surprising thing you’ve learned about yourself through your music career?
The ability to shift musical direction for the better, roll with the punches of Covid, members changing, financial struggles. Resilience would be the key word! But the love for creating new music and playing live always wins.
How do you feel about the musical landscape right now? Does anything need to change?
We think more could be done in the live scene. Support bands should always be local so you are giving grass root bands and music a chance to grow and progress.
If you could have written any album in history, which one would it be and why?
All of our answers would be different, Conagh would say something by Franz Ferdinand, I (Huw) would say Youth and Manhood by Kings of Leon, Josh would say Ram, We could go on!
Who in the music industry would you challenge to an arm wrestle, and who would win? Why?
Sam Fender, he once didn’t laugh at one of my rubbish jokes.
What are you up to right now? Any upcoming gigs or projects you’re excited about?
Lots of writing and recording! We have some exciting shows in the pipeline including a hometown headline show. We also play The Snug in Atherton on 30th of January for Greater Manchester’s ‘Early Doors Club’.
