KAV SANDHU CARRIES FORWARD ANDY ROUKE’S VISION WITH DEBUT BLITZ VEGA ALBUM | INTERVIEW

This week, Sam Shiner welcomes one half of the brains behind jangly rock duo Blitz Vega: Kav Sandhu. The musical product of the former Happy Mondays guitarist (Kav) and legendary late Smiths bassist, Andy Rouke; Blitz Vega are set to release their highly anticipated debut album on September 27th.

Having joined collective creative forces back in 2019, Andy and Kav wrote and recorded a number of tracks which would go on to be released as a live EP later that year at Abbey Road Studios. The impact of COVID 19 hit the progression of the project but they duo would continue to write and record music together until Andy’s battle with pancreatic cancer finally succumbed The Smiths bassist. On May 19th 2023, Andy passed away at the age of just 59 years old.

With unfinished business and promises made, Kav turned grief into creativity and set out to give Andy’s final project the legacy it deserves. On January 17th 2024, the date of what would have been Andy’s 60th Birthday, Blitz Vega announced that Northern Gentleman, their debut album will be released later this year on Kav’s own record label Future Sonic Records.

PART 1

Set to perform live later this week as part of Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival line-ups at Liquid Rooms; Kav will perform a DJ set on 13th August followed by appearances as Blitz Vega on 14th and 15th August.
