Rating: 5 out of 5.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic sounds of the late 1960s and early 1970s, BROTHER delivers a high-energy fusion of gritty blues and raw rock ‘n’ roll. They merge influences from the greats with a style that is all their own with their debut EP, ‘Going Home,’ which features a dynamic spectrum of sounds from heart-breaking blues ballads to powerful classic rock ‘n’ roll choruses. Their origins and the distinct personality they are forging in the current music landscape are both captured in this record.

Their music is designed to get the crowd moving and combines a traditional style with a contemporary touch. The everlasting music that BROTHER produces is both intriguing and timeless. Although female-fronted bands are formidable, female-fronted rock bands are much more potent. The real-life counterpart of Daisy Jones & The Six, BROTHER is fronted by the incredibly gifted Holly MacGregor.

The bluesy track ‘Set Me Free’ is the ideal way to introduce the EP to the listener. It’s a story of letting go, losing oneself in the beat, and being freed by the blues, with everything from the smoky glow of neon lights to the primal force of electric guitars. ‘Set Me Free’ is the type of track that seizes your soul and won’t let go thanks to its seductive beat, soaring vocals, and an infectious melody.

‘Melanie’ is flawless. Combining the lead vocals of Tom Kilby and the heavenly harmonies of Holly MacGregor, they are a unstoppable duo. The contemporary parallel of June Carter and Johnny Cash. Unwavering rock ‘n’ roll elements are infused with ‘Melanie.’ Influences from The Rolling Stones and Thin Lizzy are evident in the strong chord progressions.

The EP’s title track, ‘Going Home,’ is a rock infused masterpiece. Acoustic strings combined with weeping electric chords give the guitar a personality that is reminiscent of the 1970s and lends authenticity. With its exquisite harmonies, this beautiful track is sure to take listeners to heaven and back.

‘Everything You Got’ opens with deep, dark bass lines that explode into a rock ‘n’ roll ensemble complete with racing guitar riffs and crashing drum beats. Kilby’s gritty vocals, which draw inspiration from Creedence Clearwater Revival, enhance this song even more. BROTHER have produced a distinctive blend of country, blues, swamp pop, and boisterous rock & roll.

‘2AM’ strips it right back to close the EP. BROTHER blends MacGregor’s raw and angelic singing voice with acoustic guitar, harmonica, piano notes, and gentle electric chords. The song’s central feeling of awe and wonder is conveyed by the riffs, which move like liquid. The guitars on this song remind me of Carl Perkins’ lively country sound. The genuineness that emanates from BROTHER’s recordings is astounding.

BROTHER has produced a rock ‘n’ roll masterpiece that will captivate the audience from the first note, whether they are performing live or at festivals. ‘Going Home’ is a record that will go down in history as the pinnacle of debut EPs in the years to come.
