INSIDE EDINBURGH SUMMER SESSIONS: THE ULTIMATE 2026 LINE-UP BREAKDOWN

With the dust settled and Bellahouston Park stripped back to its natural state, preparations are underway for Summer Sessions‘ bigger and bolder Edinburgh counterpart. Taking place at the capital’s Royal Highland Centre between August 21st and 29th, the Ingliston-based concert series will welcome some of the biggest global names in rock and pop – including the inaugural Heather on the Hill Festival.

As Scotland’s largest outdoor venue, the Royal Highland Showground can host up to 60,000 music fans within its sprawling green grounds. Last year saw history made when international superstar Chappell Roan sold out two back-to-back nights – marking the biggest headline shows of her career so far. Yet, 2026 is set to be bigger still. For the first time since making the move to Ingliston, the series will host seven events over just nine short days, with up to 420,000 music fans expected to make the pilgrimage to the showground.

Biffy Clyro

Kicking things off by keeping it local on Friday August 21st, Scotland’s rock royalty Biffy Clyro will play their biggest homecoming headline set since topping the bill at last year’s TRNSMT Festival. Since releasing their tenth studio album, Futique, in September, the band has had an unstoppable year. Coming off a sold-out UK arena tour, a Best Live Act win at the Rolling Stone Awards, and a 45,000-capacity show at London’s Finsbury Park, they are in peak form. Joining the rock titans are Nothing But Thieves and Edinburgh’s own Swim School – an act we highly recommend getting down early to see.

Heather On The Hill

The next morning, barely giving the grass a moment to recover, the showground will fill back up with families of all ages as the first-ever Heather on the Hill Festival welcomes some of Scotland’s biggest names to the city. Boasting a stellar main-stage line-up featuring Cammy Barnes, Brooke Combe, Skerryvore, and headliners Nathan Evans & The Saint PHNX Band, the event offers a full day out for everyone. Kids and parents alike can enjoy face painting, arts and crafts, messy play, roaming entertainers, funfair attractions, and a local marketplace. The Cure

In the words of Robert Smith, “Sunday always comes too late…” Fortunately for us, Sunday is easily the most iconic night of Edinburgh’s Summer Sessions as The Cure land back on Scottish soil, bringing out the goth in us all. With nearly 50 years of touring under their belt, Smith and co. continue to inspire generations of music fans across the globe, having never truly gone out of fashion. Their legacy only continues to grow; thanks to a high-profile interpolation of their music by pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo, the band is constantly picking up a whole new generation of younger listeners. As if that wasn’t enough, the support bill is just as legendary, with Mogwai, Slowdive, and Just Mustard warming up the cold, dark souls of the crowd.

Florence + The Machine

Next, the whimsical powerhouse of Florence + The Machine will take over the showground on Monday, August 23rd. The show follows their massive Everybody Scream tour, which sold out dates across the globe, bringing their critically acclaimed sixth album of the same name to the stage. There is no question that the Royal Highland Centre will be echoing with the massive choruses of ‘Dog Days Are Over’, ‘Kiss with a Fist’, and ‘You’ve Got the Love’ – the only question left is, will you be part of that chorus? Once again, the support bill is stellar, with Self Esteem taking her warmup duties seriously and Scottish singer Jacob Alon bringing their heaven-sent vocals to the big stage.

Lorde

Just when you thought the line-up couldn’t get any hotter, enter international superstar Lorde. Frequently credited as one of the most influential artists of her generation – an accolade we couldn’t agree with more – her breakthrough 2013 album Pure Heroine catapulted the young New Zealand artist to global heights. Having gone from strength to strength ever since, Lorde returned to our airwaves last year with her acclaimed fourth album, Virgin. Bringing a gold-plated, “pop girly” bill that spans four corners of the globe, fans will be warmed up by the one and only Zara Larsson (Sweden), rising American singer-songwriter Audrey Hobert, and English talent Alessi Rose, who sold out Glasgow’s O2 Academy last November.

Deftones

Shifting from pop to metal at the flick of a switch, the next Summer Sessions installment welcomes the legendary Deftones back to Scotland. Fresh from selling out Glasgow’s OVO Hydro at the beginning of the year, their latest album, Private Music, proved that the Sacramento band continue to deliver world-class alternative rock for the masses. Yet again, the support bill is incredibly solid, with Ecca Vandal and Bristol post-punk powerhouses IDLES also making an appearance. With a setlist that will undoubtedly span their greatest hits, Deftones are absolutely not a band to miss on ‘My Own Summer‘…

The Prodigy

Finally, closing out nine days of relentless live music at Edinburgh’s Royal Highland Centre, Summer Sessions goes out with a party to challenge all parties, courtesy of The Prodigy turning the grounds into one giant rave. Despite line-up changes over the years and no full-length album releases since 2018’s No Tourists, the electronic icons remain unstoppable, with the demand for their live shows far exceeding availability. With teasers of new music on the horizon and their fresh remix of Sleaford Mods’ ‘Elitist G.O.A.T.’ dropping just last month, it’s safe to say attendees are in for something truly special. Keeping the heavy beats going across the day will be ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U, David Rodigan, SCARLXRD, and a massive set from the legendary Carl Cox back on the decks.
