There’s no better city than Liverpool to host Radio 1’s Big Weekend. It’s a city rich with a deep musical heritage that has impacted people across the globe. Sefton Park will host the festival from Friday, May 23, to Sunday, May 25. Over 100,000 attendees are anticipated to attend, with roughly 100 acts performing on four stages over the weekend.

On the Radio 1 Breakfast Show this morning, Greg James announced that Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2025 will include superstar Sam Fender as the main headliner. The first bands scheduled to perform are Myles Smith, Blossoms, Wet Leg, and Lola Young (who achieved her first UK #1 with ‘Messy,’ as revealed on Radio 1’s Official Chart last Friday). The UK festival season begins with Radio 1’s Big Weekend, the station’s premier live music event, which brings some of the biggest UK and worldwide acts to locations that might not otherwise host such a major event.

Music lovers in the UK have witnessed the arrival of superstars such as Taylor Swift in Norwich, Miley Cyrus in Middlesbrough, Stormzy in Exeter, Lana Del Rey in Hull, Ed Sheeran in Coventry, Bruno Mars in Derry/Londonderry, The 1975 in Dundee, and Sabrina Carpenter in Luton. The festival raises awareness of the neighbourhood and significantly strengthens the local economy, and each year it sells out nearly instantly due to the high demand for tickets.

In keeping with the BBC’s Sustainability project and Liverpool’s designation as the first UN Accelerator City for climate action, Radio 1 and Liverpool City Council will collaborate to try and make this the most environmentally friendly outdoor live music event ever held in the city.
