DRUG CHURCH BRING FRENZY ENERGY TO GLASGOW | IN PICTURES

A sold-out crowd gathered in Slay, Glasgow, impatiently waiting for headliners Drug Church to take to the stage. The restless energy hinted at what was to come later…

Michigan’s Liquid Mike kicked things off with their blend of pop punk and indie rock, at times sounding like a heavier Blink 182. Frontman Mike Maple stopped to chat between songs, telling the audience that Michiganders from the Upper Peninsula call those from the Lower Peninsula, “trolls“. When he asked if Glasgow had similar terminology for those from, say, London, a voice called out with perfect comedic timing, “Arseholes!”. Brilliant.

Shoegaze band Downward followed, their more relaxed sound representative of the calm before the storm.

Then came New York post-hardcore punks Drug Church. Walking out to a sea of black clothing and matching eyeliner, fans immediately reacted as though they’d been given a jolt of energy. Crowd surfers appeared from the opening song, while singer Patrick Kindlon fed off the increasingly wild atmosphere, regularly handing the mic to the audience. The frenzy didn’t let up until the very last note of the very last song, making this a gig that was both chaotic and exciting from start to finish.
