SINGLE REVIEW | ‘BREAKDOWN IN MY BEDROOM’ – THE K’S By Keira Knox

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The K’s quickly rose to prominence as among the foremost intriguing and popular new bands of 2024, with sold-out headline tours, numerous main stage festival performances, and a No.3 Official Charts album. They are gearing up to go beyond this year with their upcoming second album, ‘Pretty On The Internet.’ The latest album produced by Grammy Award winner Jim Lowe (Stereophonics, The Dandy Warhols) and mixed by Pete Hutchings (Royal Blood, Foals, Nothing But Thieves), features the first single, ‘Breakdown In My Bedroom.’

Once more, the driving force behind this song is The K’s expressive and potent lyricism. ‘Breakdown In My Bedroom’ explores the sensation of being imprisoned within your own thoughts, torn between the want to push through and the need to escape. It’s an introspective examination of how sometimes avoiding the world feels more comfortable than confronting it face-to-face.

‘Breakdown In My Bedroom,’ which has an energetic, indie vibe with lyrics that are honest and vulnerable, is the ideal way to introduce the new album. The band’s trademark throbbing, propelling energy and jangling guitars are featured throughout the song. What The K’s excel at is making these indie hits that seem happy and upbeat on the outside but have a profoundly sentimental and empathetic meaning underneath.

Opening up on the tracks meaning, frontman Jamie Boyle says, ““Breakdown in My Bedroom” was written as a reflection of my ongoing struggle to maintain mental stability when navigating through various situations. It’s about that internal battle—the moments when anxiety takes over, and the idea of staying in my bedroom, locked away from the world, seems like a safer and more comfortable option than facing social interactions or confronting difficult situations.”
