JOSHUA SCARRATT SHARES LATEST SINGLE ‘HOLD ME’ AMIST DEBUT EP NEWS

Indie newcomer Joshua Scarratt has recently announced debut EP Riding through the desert of my dreams will be released on May 16th alongside sharing his latest single ‘Hold Me’, out now.

The follow-up to his debut single, ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Mind’, which garnered support from Apple Music’s Matt Wilkinson and Radio X’s John Kennedy, latest single ‘Hold Me’ marks Scarratt’s renewed commitment to music. After dedicating over a decade to artist promotion, Joshua realised that his own artistic pursuits had been sidelined and whilst wrestling with his mental health, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic, Joshua found himself struggling more than ever before. Despite developing a tumultuous relationship with his guitar, turning to sobriety led to living a more stripped back lifestyle, focusing on artistic creation and inevitably leading to a rekindled passion for music.

Scarratt shares: ‘Hold Me’ is for the single people out there searching for connection in all the wrong places. You may not know it, but around and around we go. ‘Hold Me’ is also a cry for help and the endurance of repetition. It is the outward performance of life, whether through social media or your own misguided perception of the self. I wrote this song originally in 2014, so when I revisited the music and the lyrics in October 2023, it was somewhat confronting. The discovery that not much had really changed and yet it all felt like things had really accelerated. I wrote new lyrics and adapted them to contextualise the song for where I found myself at the end of 2023. The repeated intro in verse 2 is deliberate – it isn’t out of sheer laziness, it is to highlight the mental obsession one can find themselves in repeating routines which don’t serve them. Also, it’s a nod to some of my favourite pop songs growing up.”

The EP, set for release in May, features Nick Hinman (Fast Money Music), on cello Gamaliel Rendle Tray (Fat Dog, Fat White Family, Crack Cloud) and Callum Brown (Ulrika Spacek) on drums.

Before then, Joshua will make his live debut at Elephant’s Head, London on March 13th and you can get to know the man a little bit better by checking out our exclusive interview from November here.
