LAUREN LAVERNE RETURNS TO BBC RADIO 6 MID-MORNING SLOT WITH NICK GRIMSHAW TAKING ON THE BREAKFAST SHOW

Today marked the two firsts for BBC Radio 6 Music when both Nick Grimshaw and Lauren Laverne’s new shows on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds received their debut airing. Nick is hosting the 6 Music Breakfast Show from 7 to 10 am, while Lauren takes over mid-mornings from 10 am to 1 pm.
Nick opened his show by playing New Order’s Bizarre Love Triangle and Fontaines D.C.’s It’s Amazing To Be Young and welcomed listeners by saying: “Good morning and welcome along to a brand new show here on 6 Music. How are you doing? Kicking off with some New Order and then this, the latest from Fontaines [D.C.]. It is Nick Grimshaw here with you on the radio, right through to 10 o’clock this morning and here with one job only – to start your day with the best music from the best, most exciting, interesting artists in the world. I am thrilled to be back with you once again in the mornings.”

Nick welcomed his very first guest writer Sue Tilley, who shared insights about her friend, the renowned performance artist before 1980s club culture figure, Leigh Bowery, joined him in anticipation of the upcoming Leigh Bowery exhibition at the Tate Modern. Coming up later this week, Nick’s guests will be Paul Simonon of The Clash (Tuesday 25th February), Shygirl (Wednesday 26th February), Goldie (Thursday 27th February) and Gossip frontwoman, Beth Ditto (Friday 28th February).
Before beginning her new mid-morning show, Lauren joined Nick on air, sharing her joy at returning to the home of BBC 6 Music:
“It feels fantastic. I mean I’ve been so excited. The nervous energy is also just excitement to get going. I mean, I’ve done a couple of run-through shows just to remember how to press the buttons and all that business, that’s the main stuff that I worry about. Just trying out our new features and things, it’s so exciting. We’ve got some brilliant music lined up, obviously. We’re going to be hearing from lovely people on the programme as well and just excited to get going really.”
Lauren took a step back from her beloved breakfast show slot following a turbulent time after receiving a cancer diagnosis in 2024. She officially resigned from the breakfast show in January, however, it was not goodbye for good, as Lauren makes a comeback to the BBC Radio 6 mid-morning show which she held before she spent 6 years on breakfast duties.

Lauren opened the show with Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) by Sly & The Family Stone, before saying: “The incredible Sly Stone to start and thank you for welcoming me home and letting me be myself here on 6 Music! Feels so good to be back. Good morning. Cheers to Grimmy for a sensational Breakfast Show. So, let’s get going, shall we?”
