Miles Kane is back with new album Sunlight In The Shadows. The record comes October 17th on Easy Eye Sound. Alongside the announcement sees the release of his guitar driven new single ‘Love Is Cruel.’

Produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black KeysSunlight In The Shadows is 12 tracks of psyche infused rock n roll.

All roads, over 20 years, have led here,Miles says of the journey to creating Sunlight In The Shadows. “Dan and I love mixing T. Rex, Motown and The Easybeats and the result is this record. When we were chatting and sharing references, we were so similar in taste it was frightening and you can hear that shared passion through the music. I can’t wait to take it out on the road. It’s an album that needs to be played live.

Kane and Auerbach bring on board a remarkable lineup of musicians to the new record, featuring eleven original songs co-written with contributions from Pat McLaughlin, Daniel Tashian, and Patrick Carney, the drummer of The Black Keys. Not only providing backing vocals throughout, Auerbach joins the likes of Tom Bukovac, Nick Bockrath from Cage The Elephant, and Barrie Cadogan of Little Barrie on guitar.

This record was incredible to make,Dan Auerbach declares, “from start to finish. I felt like I gained a life-long friend in Miles. And that doesn’t always happen. When it does, it’s amazing. This is an artist who could potentially make records forever.

First single Love Is Cruel‘ is the story of finding comfort in your own company, soaking up the joy found in those moments.

It’s easy to reflect on life and to get caught up in what’s happened before,” Miles says of the track. “It’s important not to let those thoughts control you. The track begins with “she’s a midnight scooter rider,” which is one of my favourite opening lines to a single. It sets the tone lyrically and musically for what’s to come. Think Clint Eastwood and Judy Garland in the desert at dusk!

The album news comes as Miles prepares to play the final farewell to Sheffield’s Leadmill on Friday 27th June. The iconic grassroots venue has always held a torch in Miles’ heart, and speaking to Radio X presenter Dan O’Connell, he says:

“It served me well, Sheffield as a city as well has always had my back with gigs with that being one of the first to sell out. So it was a complete honour and it feels very special, that’s going to be the first gig back this year for me and I’m buzzing for it. We’ve finished rehearsals and we’re all ready to go. Let’s give it a good send off, it’ll be a very special night, it always pops off in there and hopefully next Friday won’t be any different”.

With speculation of a reunion with The Last Shadow Puppet‘s band mate, Alex Turner (Arctic Monkey’s) at the show, Kane hasn’t confirmed or denied such rumours, saying “My doors always open for my bro, he knows that and that’s that”, leaving fans anticipating what surprises might be in store at the last ever Leadmill show.

With tickets sold out for The Leadmill, Miles returns to the road for a run of UK dates supporting The Black Keys throughout July, including a show at London’s Alexandra Park Palace on Friday July 11th. More info on tickets available here.
