On Saturday night, Hasting punk trio HotWax made it north of the border as part of their collaboration with 2026 Independent Venue Week. Raising the roof of Glasgow’s Room 2, the intimate venue’s low ceilings could barely contain the sweaty, grunge fuelled ferocity on show.
The room was a perfect choice for this leg of the tour and packed with a cross-generational crowd of “new fans” and those who’ve been tracking them since their early EPs. By the time the lights dimmed, the air was already thick with that specific pre-punk-show humidity.
First up, support act Jeanie and The White Boys showed Glasgow how you warm up a room. Speaking to Northern Exposure last month, HotWax said of Jeanie: “We were watching her at the Divine in London like six months ago or something. Her rawness and energy is just insane, so we’ve got some competition. I’m excited to have them.”
From the word go, HotWax established their signature dynamic immediately, proving they’ve mastered the balance between messy garage-rock and tight, infectious hooks. There is a cool, effortless confidence in this band and their stage presence is magnetic, often feeling much bigger than the 3 piece band we see on stage.
The Tour in support of Music Venue Trust continues throughout this week. Ticket info can be found here.
