SINGLE REVIEW | GURRY WURRY – HAVE YOU by Morgan Hermiston

Gurry Wurry‘s newest single ‘Have You‘ is the latest release from upcoming third album “Glue“. Previously released track ‘Champions Bore Me‘ is a timeless tune that shows personality can still shine through simplicity. ‘Have You‘ follows on from this, taking a mood or feeling, and providing a melodic version. This is also the first track that Andy Monaghan and Gurry Wurry made together.

In this new song Dave King, the mastermind behind Gurry Wurry, conceptualises the idea of trying to read your partner’s mind and figuring out what to say, and how they feel. This usually results in the ultimate feeling of uncertainty. Underpinning this, there is an eclectic energy through a self-described “janky sort of rhythm“. This itself is a raw reflection of never quite being comfortable.

As with all of his discography, ‘Have You‘ is carefully curated. There is a pattern of picture-painting portrayals that King has mastered meticulously. This time, he has been able to melodise the state of walking on eggshells. Lyrically, this atmosphere has also been captured with lines like, “I could rot in doubt“. There is a lot of impact packed in, especially at just under three minutes in duration, making it a track you’re highly likely to return to.

You can find both released singles on Gurry Wurry’s upcoming album, “Glue“. Tying in the intricacy and carefully considered approach to his music, King is releasing the record as a physical edition first on 29th May. This is available on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital download.

Subsequently, every month, a streaming single will be released until the record is fully available on streaming platforms on 30th October. This provides a great incentive for listeners to hear the album before other people, and physical media is a much more beneficial alternative to artists like Gurry Wurry.
