“From melancholy ballads to rousing choruses, each song was sung with passion and conviction” | BY K

Amidst the historic ambiance of Edinburgh’s Queens Hall, rising indie-pop sensation Holly
Humberstone
took the stage, captivating a sold-out crowd with her ethereal vocals and
heartfelt lyricism. The intimate setting of the venue perfectly complemented Humberstone’s introspective sound, creating an atmosphere that felt both deeply personal and universally resonant.

As the lights dimmed and the first chords of the title track from her brand new studio album, ‘Paint My Bedroom Black‘, the audience
was immediately drawn into Humberstone’s world. With her hauntingly beautiful voice
floating effortlessly over the melody, it was clear from the get go that this would be a
performance to remember.

As an alternative-indie musician who creates songs that are very laid-back and almost
acoustic in nature, I was interested in seeing how these songs would sound when
performed live. From the very first song to the last, Humberstone and her band simply
blew me away. Additionally, they contributed additional instrumentation to a few of the
tracks, which allowed them to preserve the authenticity of the songs while simultaneously
energising the audience. Humberstone’s voice has a rare gift of effortlessly conveying emotion and tenderness, as evidenced by her introductory song. Her beautiful melodies flew through the room, infusing every area with honest emotion and authenticity. Throughout the evening,
Humberstone showcased her ability as a singer and songwriter. From melancholy ballads to
rousing choruses, each song was sung with passion and conviction, bringing the listener
deeper into her world with each line.
One of the evening’s highlights was Humberstone’s performance of ‘Cocoon‘, where she invited her opening act Medium Build back onstage to perform the song with her. Revealing a different side to his voice and demonstrating the true dynamic between the two of them onstage, which was nothing short of spectacular. As the concert drew to a close with Humberstone’s most adored song, ‘Scarlett‘, the crowd were screaming every lyric back at her, jumping up and down, evidently having the time of their lives.

Holly Humberstone‘s performance at Queens Hall in Edinburgh was nothing short of extraordinary. With her soul-stirring vocals, emotive songwriting, and genuine rapport with the audience, she proved herself to be a true talent on the rise. As she continues to captivate audiences around the world, it’s clear that Humberstone is destined
for great things, and those fortunate enough to witness her live are left with memories which will linger long after the final notes have faded into the night.
