LIVE REVIEW | OEDIPUS AND THE MAMA’S BOYS w/ Second World War, The Tuesday Club and Boxing Club | 15th August 2026 by Olivia McCallum

This was yet another incredible night with a packed line up at King Tut’s as part of their King Tut’s Summer Nights series of gigs. It would be nearly impossible to guess that this gig was the Oedipus and The Mama Boys‘ first Glasgow Headline. The crowd adored every second of the performance and I was blown away as always by the sheer amount of talent everyone in this band possesses.

The first band we were introduced to was The Second World War, who were effortlessly groovy. I thought the bassist [Andrew Shaw] was incredible and had some great riffs and I adored the stage presence of the front man [Jake McGuinness]. There was an almost feral quality to his stage persona.

Next was The Tuesday Club who never fail to bring the crowd to life. They were so energetic and had incredible unmatched Rock N Roll swagger. The first time I saw this band was in an extremely packed Nice N Sleazy where, despite there being hardly room to breathe, all the crowd wanted to do was jump and dance. This night at King Tut’s was no different. Every song they played was also unbelievably catchy.

The final support act was Boxing Club. From the jump, they had the entire crowd in the palms of their hands. Everyone was chanting and singing along to every word. The music was extremely danceable and almost reminded me of Franz Ferdinand‘s more recent works. The whole performance was wonderfully theatrical.

It was then time for the headliner. Oedipus and The Mama’s Boys truly took over the stage and made it their own. The set opened with a poetry reading performed by a friend of the band which immediately set the tone perfectly for what was to come. This band is an absolute powerhouse. Every time I see them, it further solidifies in my mind that these guys are undoubtedly my favourite band.

While I am a massive sucker for classical instruments being used in alt rock, nobody does it quite like Oedipus And The Mama’s Boys. They have a stunning and seemingly extensive catalogue of songs they play live and I love hearing something different every time. Their song ‘Stretched/Kitchens‘, released earlier this year brought me to tears. No two songs sound the same, they finished the set off with ‘Kill Bill‘, I love the way it slowly builds throughout and then bursts into chaos by the end.

They returned to the stage for an encore of ‘Cowboy Song‘, a personal favourite of mine. I, along with the entirety of the crowd, adored this set. Oedipus and The Mama’s Boys are truly one of the most exciting emerging acts from Edinburgh and I highly advise you keep your eye on them. They never fail to amaze me.
