RICHARD ASHCROFT ANNOUNCES SPECIAL GUESTS FOR WIGAN HOMECOMING
CAST, RED RUM CLUB, THE ZUTONS AND STANLEY’S AMONGST THOSE NAMED
Richard Ashcroft has today announced special guests for his long-awaited homecoming show at Robin Park, Wigan on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July 2024.
Performing on Saturday 20th July will be Britpop legends Cast, who have just released their highly anticipated new album ‘Love Is The Call’. Liverpool’s Red Rum Club also heads up the bill, the band will play their biggest UK headline show at the M&S Arena Liverpool next month in support of their Top 10 album ‘Western Approaches‘. Joining them will be Wigan’s fast rising singer-songwriter Maxwell Varey, who made his bold entrance onto the scene last year with his self-written and self-produced debut EP.
Sunday 21st July will see multi-platinum selling band The Zutons play a huge set following their headline tour and new album release next month. Hotly tipped Welsh indie quartet The Royston Club will also perform alongside Wigan’s upcoming band Stanleys, who are next in a long line of illustrious musicians to emerge from the North Western town.
These shows will be the first time Richard has performed in Wigan for over 25 years. “After 25 years, I’m back playing in my hometown,” Richard says. “Looking forward to an amazing night in Wigan.”
Richard Ashcroft is a two-time Ivor Novello winner (Songwriter of the Year in 1998 and Outstanding Contribution to British Music in 2019) who has released five Top 5 solo albums, including the #1 debut ‘Alone With Everybody’. He first came to attention with The Verve, with who he released one of the biggest albums of the era in the shape of ‘Urban Hymns’ (the UK’s 18th biggest selling album of all-time) as well as a succession of anthems which remain staples of his live set today, including ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’, ‘Bittersweet Symphony’, ‘Lucky Man’ and ‘Sonnet’. His most recent album, ‘Acoustic Hymns’, was released in 2022 and reached No.2 in the UK Album Chart.
Robin Park is Wigan Warriors’ new multi-million pound facility, built in association with Wigan council. Located next to The DW Stadium, Robin Park is just a 20 minute walk from Wigan town centre, and Wigan North Western train station.
