A LOVE-LETTER TO SPRING | DAZED & CONFUSED NEW SINGLE BY MATILDA MANN
SINGLE REVIEW | DAZED & CONFUSED – MATILDA MANN By Rachel Puk
“I’d like to be your answer” Mann testifies over a hearty bassline groove. Released in the run towards her debut album ‘Roxwell’ set to be shared this February, this single was the last to be written on the record. Mann’s sugary vocals are sprinkled over nourishing synths, warming her listeners, and leading them to the gentle acoustics which blanket the track.
In this single, Mann has playfully toyed with the structure of the song. Wasting no time, she begins with her heartfelt chorus, which irrevocably sucks her listeners into the glittery trance of the song. In comes a warm humming of the drums over jazz-infused melodies for us to experience the first verse of the single; Mann creates an ultimate clarity in her song writing in her ‘Dazed & Confused’ condition.
Mann has curated a totally addictive bridge, the guitar dances around your ears whilst Mann pleas that she be there whilst ‘the seasons change, and you’re stuck again, and you need someone to call’. Writing for her listeners pondering in the drowsy grey skies of winter, the single acts as a love-letter to spring, where her album ‘Roxwell’ awaits us, and her tour across the UK and Europe will follow later in the year.
Mann reverbs the final chorus, expanding the dimension of the song within our ears, creating more space for us to feel the hope and burning that Mann sings for. Her vocals linger just that bit more, pulling us into her dreamy and dazed state. This single has been crafted to pass us a lingering farewell as we are cascaded to the end of the song. Instead of a sure finale, ‘I’d do anything for you…’ falls into the atmosphere as the song also instrumentally fades out. Just like Mann, waiting to hear the answer, we press play again.
