“A perfect description of the more difficult aspects of the human condition” | The Pale White return with ‘Lost In The Moment’
SINGLE REVIEW | THE PALE WHITE – LOST IN THE MOMENT by Kimmi Naidoo
It’s been a long four years since The Pale White’s debut album, Infinite Pleasure, but it’s not been slow for the trio who released an EP, A New Breed in late 2023 and toured as an opener for Pixies in 2024. They’re officially back with a long awaited announcement of their second album, The Big Sad which is out on 18th April and the first single, ‘Lost In The Moment’.
‘Lost In The Moment’ is a perfect description of the more difficult aspects of the human condition in musical form. Lyrically, the song addresses the feeling of nothingness which can be both numbing and refreshing at the same time. It’s clear that this new era from the outset is vocalist, guitarist & songwriter, Adam Hope at his most introspective yet as he captures a feeling that is so hard to describe so perfectly in such a short period of time.
Right from the beginning of the track, it is easy to see this is a new and elevated sound for the band, but at its core still has the fundamentals of The Pale White sound fans have come to know and love. The structure is much like a wave that slowly builds over the verses before erupting in the ferocity of drums, bass and guitar at each chorus.. Despite being a song surrounded by dull, almost emotionless feelings, musically it is anything but that. Every single bar of this song is crafted with purpose from the bass line that punctuates each lyric to the guitar solo that is reminiscent of a glimmer of light permeating the melancholy.
This is only the beginning of what will be a huge year for The Pale White from playing London’s Palladium in February as support for Pixies frontman Frank Black, heading out on their own UK headline tour in March and once again supporting longtime musical heroes Pixies in Europe in May.
