ABBIE GORDON SHINES ON EFFORTLESSLY CATCHY NEW SINGLE ‘BOTTLEMOUTH’
SINGLE REVIEW | ABBIE GORDON – BOTTLEMOUTH by Myles Pearson
Fresh off her release of‘ Out Of Wine’, Abbie Gordon returns with her latest single‘Bottlemouth’. It continues a run of releases which feel increasingly self-assured without losing her honesty. Hailing from Irvine, Scotland, Gordon has been building real momentum, earning support from BBC Introducing and picking up nominations at the Scottish Live Music Awards.
A songwriter who leans more on feeling than flash, Gordon has carved out her own space in recent years. She’s developed this unmistakable reputation for raw, relatable writing. ‘Bottlemouth’ sits comfortably within that world. It arrives with this bouncy, easy-going energy which carries both the frivolity of youth and the excitement of growing maturity. There’s a natural catchiness running through it, too, with a subtle vocal hook that lingers without ever feeling forced. There are shades here of Maisie Peters and Mimi Webb in the way it balances diaristic detail with accessible pop sensibility, yet it never feels derivative.
The careful balance between polish and personality gives ‘Bottlemouth’ enough lift to feel complete, yet it never strays too far from the intimacy which makes her music. It would have been easy to push this further into a bigger, more commercial sound. Though, credit to Gordon, she resists that. What you’re left with is something that feels considered rather than manufactured – again, a piece full of feeling and familiarity.
What stands out most is how natural it all feels. Opening with the line “Straight out from a rebound…”, the track immediately sketches the beginnings of a new romantic chapter, drawing the listener into an understated world. Nothing is overplayed, nothing feels forced. It’s a song which trusts its own pacing, allowing the listener to settle into it rather than chasing a moment. That restraint works in its favour, giving Bottlemouth its staying power.
Still early in her career, this feels like another step forward rather than a change in direction. If anything, ‘Bottlemouth’ reinforces what Abbie Gordon already does well, just with a little more clarity and confidence.
