Sharing a stage with Skin is no easy feat given her legendary, explosive stage presence, but when the match is Shirley Manson, you can expect the result to be massive. A co-headline tour, Garbage and Skunk Anansie bring together two of the biggest alternative rock bands of the past 30 years onto one explosive stage. Set to hit the UK next month, last night the bands hit France, performing to over 6,000 fans at Le Zénith Paris.

Grove

First on the bill was Grove, who brought a fiery, defiant energy that fit the lineup perfectly. Not a traditional rock band, Grove is a non-binary vocalist, producer, and DJ who blends heavy, industrial electronics with the raw aggression of punk and the heavy bass of Jamaican sound-system culture.

SKUNK ANANSIE

Skunk Anansie need no introduction. With over three decades of unfiltered defiance, the band are true pioneers in the ’90s alternative rock landscape. At Le Zénith, they delivered a blistering set, tearing through career-spanning anthems like ‘Hedonism’ ‘Weak’, and the ferocious ‘Yes It’s Fucking Political’, alongside the powerful ‘An Artist Is an Artist’ from their latest album, The Painful Truth.

GARBAGE

Asserting their headliner status, Garbage pumped up the venue’s volume, proving that 30 years into their career, they are far from a passive nostalgia act. Shirley Manson and company boldly opened with ‘There’s No Future in Optimism’ before leading the crowd through a career-defining set that took us straight back to the ’90s. Tracks such as ‘Stupid Girl’, ‘I Think I’m Paranoid’ and ‘Only Happy When It Rains’ were matched with a dark, heavy, and current tone, proving their newer material easily stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the classics.

Garbage and Skunk Anansie will continue their joint headline tour throughout June with remaining tickets available here.
