AMELIA COBURN SHARES STUNNING NEW SINGLE

A true tale of post-mortem revenge, Amelia Coburn shares her brand new Bill Ryder-Jones produced single ‘Le Fabuleux Destin de Sandra’, out now.
This week, rising indie folk-noir singer, Amelia Coburn has shared a brand new french language version of ‘Sandra’, a previous release found on her 2024 debut album, Between The Moon and The Milkman. A song which was celebrated by the legendary Paul Weller as one of his favourite tracks of the year, ‘Sandra’ is inspired by the life of her elderly Parisian landlady, who Amelia lived with whilst studying in the French capital. Speaking no English, this didn’t stop the pair getting to know each other better and the woman shared stories of her life and her existence at the hands of an abusive, alcoholic husband who ultimitely succumbed to his addiction. Despite his dying wish that he should be buried, and in no circumstances, should be cremated, the woman send him to the crematorium.
Release this brand new French language version of the song has enabled Amelia to achieve her ambition of re-presenting the song in the native tongue of the Parisian powerhouse, paying homage to artists such as Serge Gainsbourg, Francois Hardy and Jacques Brel who all loom large in her influences.
Amelia Coburn: “Beyond being a musician, I’ve always been passionate about learning languages. I have a degree in French, Spanish, and Russian, and I’ve also spent some time living and working in Paris. That’s why it’s long been a dream of mine to translate one of my songs. With the help of French folk singer Flossie Malavialle, I’ve finally brought that dream to life! Performing ‘Sandra’ in the title character’s mother tongue adds a whole new magic and sentiment to the story behind it.”
On working with Amelia, renowned producer Bill Ryder-Jones shares “I’ve never in my life worked with someone quite like Amelia and I still can’t quite put my finger on what she is! That’s a compliment by the way – she came in with these incredibly clever, moving songs that just blew me away… It would’ve taken me a day to record just her and her uke but she wanted a bigger sound, so we had a lot of playing around with these arrangements. Honestly, the whole process was just very natural and came together without any fuss. I found the making of the record and Amelia herself so inspiring and I really hope people get the chance to see and hear this incredibly talented artist doing her thing… which is beautifully mad, funny, intelligent and earnest in the best possible sense.”
Shortlisted by Drowned In Sound and Seetickets as one of the 15 ‘Must See’ acts in 2025, Tees Valley ‘Artist of the Year’ Amelia heads out on a full band headline tour in May.
