LIVE REVIEW | FLETCHER – GLASGOW O2 ACADEMY 03/05/2024 By Hope Simmers

American pop sensation, FLETCHER, impressed fans from all over Scotland last week as she stopped in Glasgow as part of the UK/EU leg of her global In Search Of The Antidote tour. The tour, which follows the release of her third studio album of the same name back in March, will wrap up it’s current stretch with dates in London and Dublin.

Queuing from 10am that morning to get into Glasgows O2 Academy, Fletchers Scottish fans knew this was set to be a night to remember and they were right. Starting as any show north of the border does with energetic chants of “Here we f**king go”, Fletcher emerged seemingly by joining in by kicking off the set singing “Here I f**king go again” – the opening line of ‘Maybe I am‘, the first track off her latest album In Search Of The Antidote. Next, throwing it back to 2022’s breakthrough album Girl of My Dreams with single ‘Sting‘, the party has officially started.

Last year Fletcher found herself at several award ceremony’s brushing shoulders with the music industries finest and since the latest album release in March 2024, Fletcher has made the cover of several magazines, made prime TV appearances – cementing herself as a global superstar in the making. Her stage presence matches that main character energy but Fletcher hasn’t let that success go to her head. Still as focused on her fans, the pop star spends time between songs to connect with her audience; at one point even jumping down to the crowd to check the ID of a fan who claimed to have the same surname as her. The camera zooms in on members of the audience, sharing the many fan made signs that are spotted across the floor. ‘Take a Joyride on my face‘ reads one; a reference to the titillating new track ‘Joyride‘ featured on the new album. Another of the signs reads ‘Rate My Tats’ which Fletcher mistakes for ‘Tits‘, leading to shared moment of laughter with the crowd.

The extensive set list featured a great combination of tracks from In Search of The Antidote, including an acoustic rendition of ‘Joyride‘ mid set, as well as some earlier hits such as ‘girls girls girls’ ‘shh.. don’t say it’ and ‘If I hated you’. You’d be forgiven to think you have been whisked away to some alternative American pop reality this evening as Fletcher immerses herself deep within the music, engulfed with fiery passion reflected in her insanely hot vocals. At least that’s until the crowd bring you right back to reality with another Scottish tradition, the patriotic chants of “no Scotland, no party”, which of course the band join in with.

The set comes to a climatic end with Fletchers well known hit ‘Becky’s So Hot‘. With the crowd reciting every word back with every last ounce of energy, it’s clear that nobody wanted this evening to end quite yet. Selling out venues across the world, it’s apparent that this growing star is really just getting started and when she makes her return, the venues and the crowds are only going to get bigger.
