ANDREW CUSHIN ‘LOVE IS FOR EVERYONE’: HEARTFELT, SINCERE AND RAW

Rating: 4 out of 5.

2 years since the release of his 2023 debut album, Waiting For The Rain, Geordie rising star Andrew Cushin presents his sophomore release Love Is For Everyone

Cushin primes himself in his acoustic roots, however his latest effort drives the sound up to 10, experiencing raw energy in the most profound way.

Title track ‘Love Is For Everyone’ rolls itself in, comparatively grading itself as a much fuller ballad next to the efforts on his debut. The sophomore title track centralises on an optimistic note, grasping at opportunity and positivity with its same arms together melodies.

Within the amplified production of the album, ‘New World Blazing’ showcases the fire in the belly of this record. Whilst it may lack in the classic Cushin style hooks, its ability to introduce power into the album adds variety to the record.

A working-class hero of the scene; the intimate album launches to his consecutive signings and fan engagement, orchestrated by a humbled character that reflects through his work. ‘Alright!’ reflects the monotonous drag to Friday and the everyday cycle that the average fellow ends up in. Its sing-a-long bounds of “ohs” immediately takes pride in glueing a crowd in a compassionate movement of the hips, drifting from the ballads Cushin finds himself in.

‘She’ hurdles into an almost psychedelic spiral of obsession and admiration. Imagine ‘Champagne Supernova’ meets ‘If I Had A Gun’ – if we should keep ourselves in the Gallagher universe. With Noel Gallagher producing the heartfelt cry ‘Where’s My Family Gone’ on the North East’s songwriter’s debut, it’s no surprise his influence bleeds through Cushin’s work

No More Shadows knockout punch illustrates itself in a fight, with a leading resurrection. Impossible to miss the Gallagher influence, the track still holds distinctive character for upcoming Geordie.

Whilst the theme of love may be quite self-explanatory on this album, it’s a diversion from his previous work in its personal indulgence of growing up and hardship. ‘A Song For You indicates an near country twang with its familiar toe-tapping sound. The album slows down further after this, in a tag team of Catfish and the Bottlemen influences with heavier and glooming ‘Kiss The Sky into cliché central ‘Standing By My Side’.

‘Kiss The Sky’ winds its harmonious grind of guitar into melancholic memory. Whilst ‘Standing By My Side’ may fuel on idioms, its sincerity is not lost. For the album to stick its weaker tracks at the latter end feels redeemable when ‘I’m Coming Home’ closes the album. It’s earnest strings guiding the song into a wholesome track bearing distance and longing between family.

Sincerity and personality carry the weight of the album, objectifying unity in its individuality. Cushin’s confidence in buoyancy transverses through the album. Whilst it may not buttress the same immediate hook of his debut, it manages to wrap interpersonal memories through universal themes which are impossible not to connect with.
