BACKSTAGE AT TRNSMT WITH PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS | QUICKFIRE
Coming in with a strong chance of being the band with the biggest commute to this years TRNSMT festival were Australian rock band Psychedelic Porn Crumpets. The Perth (AUS) prog rockers had both the honour – or challenge – of both being the first act on Day 2 of the festival over on the King Tuts Stage AND the closing the official after show party over at the actual King Tuts Wah Wah Hut iconic venue in the city, over 12 hours later.
No stranger to a Scottish crowd, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets were last in Scotland just a few months ago as part of their abruptly cut UK/EU tour having sold out SWG3 Galvanisers. A few days later, an unfortunate accident seen the band head back home. But they are back on the road and couldn’t resist popping back to Glasgow on their travels.
We were privileged secure the exclusive opportunity of a quick chat with Front man Jack McEwan and lead guitarist Luke Parrish after their exceedingly sweaty, guitar packed opening set!
Opening day 2 of TRNSMT on the King Tuts Stage, how was that?
It was great! But we’re tired, we travelled up from Newcastle this morning so we were literally straight on the stage, but it was good.
First of 2 shows today as you move from the King tuts stage to the actual King Tuts venue tonight for the official after party. What can people expect from round 2?
Erm…that we’ll be awake! (laughs)
You were here earlier in the year for your official UK tour dates but the rest of the dates had to be cut – what happened there?
So a dog bit my face when we were in Manchester! I’ll show photo if need be (laughs). It was nasty. But we did actually make the Scottish one at SWG3 and it was one of our best shows yet, we loved it.
I have to ask about your band name though – what’s going on there??
It’s a compilation of weekends all mashed into one, you have to say it without a break.
Will you be hanging about the festival throughout the day? Are you keen to catch any other artists?
Yeah, we hope so! Looking forward to Enter Shikari, Chase and Status and oh, Rick Astley (laughs).
What about new music? Last album was out in November but are you writing again? When can fans expect the next evolution of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets?
Hopefully we will have new music out the end of the year, but if not then a new album next year for sure.
Finish the sentence…the best thing about Glasgow is?
TRNSMT FESTIVAL!
Clearly feeling the fatigue of such an early start to the day, we let Jack and Luke head for some much needed respite for their midnight set at King Tuts tonight.
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets latest album Fronzoli is out now!
