CHASE ATLANTIC | GLASGOW OVO HYDRO 30th April 2025 by Emma Carrington

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Over the past few weeks, LA based Aussie trio Chase Atlantic have been packing out arenas as part of their Lost In Europe & UK Tour. This week, the final leg arrives in the UK for 3 sold out shows, starting off in Glasgow at the OVO Hydro.

Best known for their hit single “Swim” (2017), the alternative R&B band who formed in 2014 released their fourth studio album LOST IN HEAVEN in November last year, with singles “RICOCHET” and “DIE FOR ME” being stand out moments of the record.

Dripping with nostalgia tonight, Chase Atlantic embraced the rockstar lifestyle in the most excessive, stereotypical “drugs, girls and fast cars” manner. While their music frequently touches on these themes, the band members displayed a refreshing down-to-earth attitude, expressing gratitude for their time on stage at the OVO Hydro. Frequently checking in with the crowd and chatting between the louder intense tracks made the whole show more grounded and enjoyable throughout, avoiding it becoming overwhelming.

The opening song “DIE FOR ME” from their new album personally didn’t do much for me, and the crowd seemed to agree as the response was fairly weak. However, as soon as the second song “Slow Down” began, everything changed. Chase Atlantic really lean into their nostalgia element here as I found myself thinking back to myself in 2021, post lockdown and discovering their music. With the whole stage lit up on a screen at this point, a Ferrari adorned in Chase Atlantic imagery appears, reflecting the band’s luxurious lifestyle image.

Notorious amongst fans, the band no longer play their 2014 single “Meddle About” live. With the guitarist teasing the intro though, the Glasgow charm soon wins, and with a quick chant, the band burst into “Meddle About”. The energy and bond between Chase Atlantic and their fans is something I’ve never quite seen before. The moment they expressed their care and love for their fans, the authenticity of their words resonated throughout the audience. Lead singer, Mitchel Cave, admits that Glasgow was the “best show of the tour so far” and we “made them do something they’ve never done before” with their surprise rendition of the “unrehearsed” song “Meddle About”. However, this moment has since caused some commotion and controversy online, with fans suggesting that the crowd had made the band members uncomfortable, however, as somebody who was actually in the room at the time, I didn’t sense any pressure. Instead it was a tender moment which saw the band laughing and teasing the song, before delivering something that this crowd will remember for a long time to come.

The final few songs included some older singles; “Church” and “Swim” and not one person was left seated or silent by this point. Both tracks were just incredible to see live and the crowd went crazy for it. “Swim” was a clear standout moment, transforming the stage into a vibrant display of graphics and colors. It felt more like a spectacular light show than just a concert, captivating the audience with its energy and visual appeal.

After witnessing tonight’s performance, I think it’s safe to say that Chase Atlantic are at their best, evoking old memories with their signature nostalgia sound, making their shows so unforgettable and cherished.

The Lost In Europe & UK Tour will come to an end this weekend, with another Sold Out performance at London’s The O2, and if the show is anything like it was in Glasgow then fans are in for an almighty treat.
