CUT GLASS KINGS HAVE ‘BIG DREAMS’ FOR ALBUM NO.2

NEW MUSIC | CUT GLASS KINGS – BIG DREAMS

Cut Glass Kings are back to welcome the New Year with their new single, ‘Big Dreams‘. Capturing the essence of unexpected, uplifting melodies. this latest track is part of a series of singles leading up to their second album, From A Distant Place, set to be released next month on Run On Records (home to The Coral and The Royston Club). Alongside this exciting release, the band has also revealed a series of nine UK tour dates which kicks off at London’s Black Heart on February 14th.

Originating from the Midlands over ten years ago now, the duo – Paul Cross (guitars/vocals) and Greg McMurray (drums), Cut Glass Kings released their self-titled 2019 debut album with the support of big fan James Skelly; front man of The Coral, who co-produced the record. Following the release Cut Glass Kings set off on a rebellious journey with no clear destination in sight. New single ‘Big Dreams‘ – also the upcoming album opener – is a testament to the pairs evolution as a band.

Speaking of ‘Big DreamsCross says“This was a kind of a happy accident. The way my guitar had been leaning on the wall tuned the high E string down so, when I played a normal chord, it sounded amazing. I just had a burst of inspiration and Track One was finished in five minutes”. McMurray adds “Paul wasn’t sure it would suit us at first. It sounded a bit Fontaines D.C. Everything about the recording was so wrong it was right. ‘I’ve got big dreams in my head’ is a really simple lyric, but it feels fitting that it’s the first line of the album.”

‘Big Dreams’ follows October’s ‘At The Borderline’ and the earlier album teasers ‘Gift Horse‘, ‘Thick As Thieves‘ and ‘Flying Saucer‘ – a collection of songs which reflects the more refined and matured band that Cut Glass Kings present in album 2.

Self-recording the tracks with a vintage Tascam 388 tape machine in their cellar studio, they then welcomed the return of Skelly to the production team again on the mix alongside renowned Liverpool producer Chris Taylor (Blossoms, The Lathums, Miles Kane, Courteeners) in the new Kempston Street Studios. The nostalgic approach is reflected in the final mix and gives the tracks a characteristic charm which should carry well to the intimate stages they are set to don on their upcoming tour.
