DJO (Hope Simmers/Northern Exposure)

LIVE REVIEW | DJO w/ Post Animal | GLASGOW O2 ACADEMY 2nd June 2025 by Hope Simmers

DJO at the O2 Academy Glasgow — what a show! It was the perfect send-off to an incredible week and somehow, the perfect beginning to the one ahead.

Opening the night were Post Animal, a band I hadn’t heard before, but they had the crowd grooving in no time. Their sound has that infectious, indie-soul energy that I imagine would sit well with Bleachers fans. I later found out that Joe Keery was actually one of Post Animal’s original members before he launched DJO as a solo project in 2017, around the same time his acting career took off.

Most people know DJO for “End of Beginning“, a track he told the crowd was written during his move from Chicago — a turning point in his life that he didn’t realise was so significant at the time.

This was my first time hearing both Post Animal and DJO live, and I had an incredible time. The energy was electric, DJO’s new album The Crux landed perfectly with the crowd — every track felt like a moment. If you’re lucky enough to catch them on the remaining dates of their world tour, expect a setlist full of gems like “Basic Being Basic” (a personal favourite), “Gloom“, and “Delete Ya“.
