Last week SON Estrella Galicia’s flagship event Soundhood Hackney returned on with more artists and venues than ever before. Headlined by Folly Group, Courting, and Gurriers, the festival saw a return to their roots with two Spanish artists in Yawners, Amor Líquido, alongside Welsh act MORN.
Taking place across Hackney at Paper Dress Vintage, Sebright Arms, and Oslo, the night welcomed an array of live music, DJ sets, and showcases. First up, Seabright Arms hosted ‘Beer Backstage’ which combined the worlds of music and beer with ‘Beer Backstage’.

Later, it was over to Paper Dress Vintage for ‘Beer & Beats’.

SON Estrella Galicia is the musical arm of the family owned, independent Estrella Galicia beer brand specialising in creating unforgettable music and beer experiences since 2009. For three years they have been supporting independent venues and artists around Hackney, with 2025 being their biggest year yet.
Yawners
Fusing pop punk and indie rock with the energy of the 90s, Yawners, the project of composer and guitarist Elena Nieto was formed in 2015. Influenced by bands like Weezer, Pavement, and The Breeders, the artist signed to labels such as Big Scary Monsters (UK), Counter Intuitive Records (USA), Inpartmaint Inc. (Japan), and Montgrí (Spain). To date, YAWNERS has not only toured Spain, Europe, and the US, but has also featured on festival lines such as SXSW, Eurosonic, BBK, Madcool, Primavera Sound, FIB, and Tomavistas, accruing more than 180 shows.
Amor Líquido
Amor Líquido borders on the defiant extreme within pop: they are the champion of art-punk in Spanish, the most outspoken generational band in their scene and the one with the freshest and most visceral message. Sara (vocals), Eva (drums, backing vocals), Peral (guitar, backing vocals) and Gaby (bass) don’t mince words: they have turned Z’s problems into their own biographical and even tender discourse.
Folly Group
Folly Group is the sum of drums, percussion, bass, guitar, vocals and a sampler. Elsewhere, Folly Group is an amorphous creative entity, encompassing a group of friends whose practice spans various disciplines. Its members have all played with each other in various projects over the last three years, now Folly Group is a way to mess with form, structure and signifiers.
Courting
Indie rabble-rousers Courting’s most recent album Lust for Life, Or: ‘How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Story’ is an album full of dualities, contrasts and contradictions. It contains some of the most straight-up pop music the band have ever made, but it’s also arguably their most experimental work to date. It is fun and silly, peppered with in-jokes, references, and Easter eggs, but it is detailed
MORN
A striking new presence emerging from the farmlands of Monmouth, South Wales are MORN. Two sets of siblings crafting a compelling blend of what they refer to as “doom over beautiful chords.” Announcing their arrival with the breathless, runaway train chaoticism of ‘Modern Man’, MORN weave spiky guitar passages and rumbling fuzz, with an urgency that feels as though they can’t get to the end of the song fast enough.
Gurriers
Formed on the cusp of a global pandemic, Dublin’s newest alternative addition, Gurriers, embody the emerging Irish genres of post-punk, noise rock and shoegaze. Made up of five best friends, roommates and co-workers Dan Hoff, Emmet White, Ben O’Neill, Mark MacCormack and Pierce Callaghan, each louder than the last. nspired by timeless first records by The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The Chemical Brothers, and Black Midi, Gurriers’ first album is no ordinary debut, but an exhilarating statement of intent by five people fed up with tiptoeing around the chaos.
