With the release of the eagerly awaited ‘Favourite,’ the follow-up single to ‘Starburster,’ Fontaines D.C. is maintaining their undisputed place amongst some of the best in the music industry. The new ‘Romance‘ era of Fontaines music is well underway and is shaping up to be one of their best yet with ‘Starburster’ coming close to amassing more streams than the ‘A Hero’s Death’ EP in its entirety. This new track by the Dublin band is a true masterpiece, establishing a very high standard for any future releases.

What I adore about Fontaines music is that no two of their songs sound the same; ‘Favourite’ sounds completely different from ‘Starburster,’ but it is still powerful and unique in its own way. ‘Favourite’ will undoubtedly serve as your summertime theme music. With this song, Grian Chatten has once again exceeded himself in terms of vocal ability. His delivery exudes a breathtaking amount of passion and emotion. Both Carlos O’Connell and Conor Deegan’s backing vocals on this track are something to behold, complimenting Chatten’s distinctive sound perfectly. It is the perfect alternative love song, an instant classic.

This song has a timeless quality to it and seems both very fresh and nostalgic at the same time. If there is only one thing you can rely on, it is Fontaines releasing the song of the century. Reminiscent of some of Johnny Marr and The Cure’s best work, the track’s dreamy vibe is further enhanced by the shimmering guitar riffs. It perfectly captures numerous post-punk tropes with its intense drum rhythms and gorgeous bass tones. ‘Favourite’ creates something genuinely amazing by fusing their distinctive post-punk sound with the iconic sound of 90s indie.

It is destined for the Glastonbury stage; festival goers are in for a treat with this track. Melodies for summertime that will have you dancing in the fields. With the impending release of their fourth studio album, ‘Romance,’ Fontaines D.C. is proving to be one of the most intriguing bands around, and it seems certain that the group will soar to new heights of fame. ‘Favourite’ is, in my opinion, their strongest release to date, demonstrating that Fontaines D.C. is truly capable of anything. A tune that is simply outstanding and sets the standard for the impending album release is the result of unadulterated skill and unending hard effort.
