INAUGURAL B12 BREAKTHROUGH WINNERS ‘ROAD RUNNERS’ SHARE HOW £1000 PRIZE TRANSFORMED IT ALL

As we dust off the second installment of B12 Entertainment‘s ‘Breakthrough‘ battle of the bands style showcase, we look back at pilot episode winners Road Runners and how the prize changed their creative course.

So tell us, how did it feel to win the first ever Breakthrough prize?

We were ecstatic! It was the inaugural series of the event and was so humbling as we were against some other great bands. We were first to perform, therefore we had to sit nervously for the entire night waiting for the result.

What has the incredible £1000 prize money meant for the band?

As a small band, the prize money truly meant the world. We have now managed to record more of our songs which will be announced soon. We have been able to afford new equipment and hire photographers for our gigs which has helped us with the promotion of our band.

What opportunities do you feel have been opened as a result of winning the competition?

As a result of winning, we have been offered more gigs such as King Tut’s but unfortunately we had to sadly turn down as we were not all 18 years yet. But it has also gave us a lot of attention from brands too, even the likes of Brian May guitars!

What else have the band got upcoming?

We have an upcoming charity gig for Prostate Cancer UK on June 9th in the Old Hairdressers in Glasgow of which we have been fundraising for. So far we have raised £140 (as of writing) but we thought if we raise £200, then Maison – our guitarist with a man bun – will shave it off.

Later this month we have an upcoming gig in Airdrie. On June 21st we’ll be playing at the Vibe nightclub and soon we will announce the release of one of our songs which is a crowd-favourite!

Since the time of chatting with Road Runners, the band smashed their £200 target raising an incredible total of £469 and counting, with ticketing app Sessami donating 100% of their profits from said Old Hairdressers gig straight to the Prostate Cancer UK cause. On May 31st, the band shared a video of their guitarist Maison loosing that man bun – all in the name of charity!

In addition to their Airdrie headline this month, B12 Entertainment have announced that Road Runners will join the Episode 16 The Gathering at Glasgow’s SWG3 Warehouse on Friday August 9th! Ecstatic to join the line-up alongside Cloud House, The Sketca and Nervous Habits, Road Runners say this will be their biggest gig to date.
