SINGLE REVIEW | JOE GOODALL – GROWING APART by Morgan Hermiston

Two years on from the release of debut EP, “A Series of Safe Spaces” Scottish singer-songwriter Joe Goodall is back with latest single, ‘Growing Apart‘. This single follows earlier release ‘Suckerpunch‘, with both tracks taken from his forthcoming second EP.

Written alongside Bruce Rintoul [Twin Atlantic], who also produced the track, and Callum Hart, ‘Growing Apart‘ tells a tale of desperately not wanting a relationship to end. The ethereal and uplifting melody combats this sadness and desperation, adding light to something that may feel quite dark in the moment. The chorus itself is infectious, a simple line of not wanting “to be growing apart“. Lyrics talk of your partner looking elsewhere, “you’re led by your wandering heart“.

Merging meaningful sentiments with catchy, memorable instrumentals is something Joe Goodall is developing divinely. He draws inspiration from the likes of The 1975, James Bay and Sam Fender, and while these influences are prevalent, Joe’s music is instantly identifiable as his own.

Even at the age of 21, Joe is an artist who possesses a level of maturity that has quickly arisen through a range of life experiences. Love and loss are things we’ll all go through, and Goodall has mastered the meticulous task of taking these broad experiences, sharing his story, but creating vivid and versatile melodies that a huge audience will enjoy.

You can catch ‘Growing Apart’ live along with all of Joe Goodall’s other dynamic discography at a range of upcoming shows. He’s playing, along with his incredible band, in Alloa, and Liverpool across October, as well as a Glasgow headline show on December 12th. Summer 2026 is also shaping up to be bright for Goodall, with a slot at The Heartland Festival.
