SINGLE REVIEW | HALF DIZZY – TURN THIS UP by Craig Harston

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Half Dizzy have been doing the rounds for a few years now and have made quite a bit of a name for themselves within the New York punk rock scene.

Delivering gritty and stripped back punk rock songs, the Long Island five piece blend old school punk and hardcore energy infectious melodies. Since signing with Punkerton Records, they released their debut EP in 2022, the excellent ‘Courtesy Flush‘ (which includes the absolute banger that is ‘Surrogate‘) and they’ve clearly put themselves on the map in the intervening years, ultimately catching the eye of The Bouncing Souls’ Pete Steinkopf, who has recorded and produced Half Dizzy‘s brand new song, ‘Turn This Up‘ which is destined to be a summer anthem.

Starting with the combination of a great guitar riff (that returns throughout the song, most notably on the bridge) and Mason Cohen‘s drums, it gets the high energy going quickly before Dizzy Doll‘s distinctive vocals kick in. The song building to the choruses as Dizzy is joined by the rest of the band for some gang vocals! It’s a relentless, fast-paced song with an excellent bridge that leads into the refrain “Life’s too short and time moves fast / Yea the future’s calling so don’t look back.”

Because that’s what the song is all about – living life to it’s fullest and embracing the moment while you can – life moves fast and the future will always be there when you get to it. As guitarist/vocalist Daniel Marchelewski puts it, “It’s an infectious anthem about living in the moment, letting go of worries, and soaking up every bit of joy life has to offer. It’s the perfect soundtrack for sun-soaked days, late-night drives, and carefree vibes all season long” and truer words could not be said. It’s a song that’s going to go down well live and will surely have everyone singing along in no time!

So, the message is clear – get ‘Turn This Up‘ onto your summer playlists, turn it up to 11 and live life out loud! And if you’ve not checked out ‘Courtesy Flush‘ yet, I suggest you do so ASAP!

Turn This Up‘ is out now via Punkerton Records and is available to stream everywhere!
