LIVERPOOL SOUND CITY 2024 | DAY 1 – PART 1
RED RUM CLUB, KEYSIDE, ALEX SPENCER, RESISTER, RED COVEN, VIDDY AND HARRY MCKENNY
Liverpool Sound City kicked off festival season last weekend with an incredible line-up. It was held in multiple independent venues in the city centre, including; The Arts Club, Spanish Caravan, EBGBS and The Jacaranda. Kayleigh was there to catch as much as the action as she could for Northern Exposure.
Let’s see what Day 1 (04/05/24) brought…
Harry McKenny
I started my day with a relaxing start to the weekend at Spanish Caravan with Harry McKenny. An indie rock singer-songwriter from Huyton, Liverpool, Harry performed an acoustic set to a packed out venue.
Viddy
Viddy was next at the busy Spanish Caravan. As claimed by Gigseekr, Viddy “bring hypnotising baselines, suave guitar, a sprinkling of electronic and tender vocals to create mellow pop songs that capture the audience”. Their imagination invites audiences to share in all their ‘feels’ and they weren’t wrong to do so. I personally recommend listening to ‘Fool for a Fun Night’.
Alex Spencer
Alex Spencer is one of the few acts that I had already seen before so I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed. The 17-year-old indie-pop singer and songwriter from Manchester had the Arts Club Loft crowd dancing and singing along with his catchy songs. My favourite is ‘Love and Let Go‘.
RESISTER
Carrying on in the Arts Club Loft was Resister, a 4-piece alternative rock band from Glasgow. Their music talks about modern life challenges and their themes revolve around the belief that everyone can overcome internal battles and become better people for themselves and those around them. Their newest single ‘Get Some‘ is worth the listen.
RED COVEN
Red Coven fit in perfectly with the aesthetic of EBGBS. Modern rock with a dark feminine twist filled out the room, and so did the crowd. I recommend the song ‘Broken I’m ok Mirror Glass‘.
KEYSIDE
Keyside headlined The Arts Club Loft back in March and it was great to have them back on the stage. The scouse band recently released their latest EP ‘Nikita‘ and had fans singing and dancing along.
RED RUM CLUB
The afternoon headliners, Red Rum Club, blew the roof off Grand Central Hall. The Liverpudlian sextet had the venue packed out and dancing around, the atmosphere felt like home from the lighting to the trumpet, the whole show was mesmerising. My favourite song is ‘Vanilla‘.
