Gen and The Degenerates (Kayleigh Nickson/Northern Exposure)

GEN AND THE DEGENERATES, SEB LOWE, THE LOTTERY WINNERS, THE KAIROS, DECO, KING NO-ONE AND GOOD NEIGHBOURS

Following on from Liverpool’s Sound City Day 1 – Part 1 featuring Harry McKenny, Viddy, Alex Spencer, Resister, Red Coven, Keyside and Red Rum Club we move into the later part of the day where the venues got busier and sets got even bigger. Featuring Good Neighbours, King No-One, Deco, The Kairos, The Lottery Winners, Seb Lowe and Gen and The Degenerates.

GOOD NEIGHBOURS

Good Neighbours are an East London based band that I hadn’t heard of before this weekend. Their song ‘Home‘ went viral and now has over 166 million listens on Spotify and after hearing it live, I understand why. It’s such a beautiful song and I had to add it to my daily playlist.

KING NO-ONE

I’ve been a fan of King No-One for years but I hadn’t seen them live in a while and I wasn’t sure if they were going to be as good as I remember. They were better. The Arts Club Theatre was the perfect sized venue for them as they could rock out and lead singer, Zach Lount, could climb around the venue. My favourite song is still ‘Alcatraz‘.

DECO

Deco has managed to merge modern pop and 80’s synth pop perfectly. There was so much energy in the Arts Club Loft, even those who didn’t know the songs were still jumping around. My song of choice is ‘Photograph‘.

THE KAIROS

The Kairos are exploding the Liverpool music scene so it didn’t surprise me to see The Arts Club Theatre fully packed out for them. My favourite song is ‘Lazy Lethargic‘, it’s constantly on repeat for me. If you missed their set at the festival, they will be headlining their biggest show so far at O2 Academy in Liverpool on Friday 8th November. Get your tickets before it sells out. #NoKairoNoParty

THE LOTTERY WINNERS

The Lottery Winners were a surprise addition to the line-up as they were only announced less than a week before the event. I personally think that they could’ve easily played a bigger venue than The Arts Club Loft as the room was packed out early with everyone waiting for them. Lead singer, Thom Rylance, has the perfect balance of talent and wit that his stage presence has the crowd entertained even before they started playing. The played some of their top hits such as ‘Worry‘ and ‘Letter to Myself‘ and got the crowd to sing ‘Hey Jude‘ by The Beatles then asked everyone to cheer for their songs as if they were cheering for Hey Jude. I recommend going to one of their shows if you can.

SEB LOW

Seb Lowe headlined The Arts Club Theatre and performed his popular songs such as ‘Terms and Conditions‘ and ‘Ode to Britannia‘. His music is witty and expresses the current political fury of Gen Z.

GEN AND THE DEGENERATES

The last act of the day was definitely one worth waiting for. Gen and The Degenerates packed out The Jacaranda, you couldn’t fit anyone else in there. They bring the energy and chaos while performing songs from their new album Anti-Fun Propaganda such as ‘Girls!’ and ‘Post-Cool’. An inflatable shark added to the mix of moshpits, sunglasses and punk rock songs made a perfect end to a great day. What more could you want?
