LIVERPOOL SOUND CITY | DAY 2
VENUS GRRRLS, NXDIA, HONEY MOTEL, FLAT PARTY, YEE LOI, DEAD DISTANCE AND JOY MUMFORD
Day 2 of Liverpool’s Sound City and we are ready to go again! Another jam packed day of incredible live music across the city which new music fans look forward to immersing themselves in.
We chose to finish up a little early on Sunday but Kayleigh still manages to capture sets from Joy Mumford, Dead Distance, Yee Loi, Flat Party, Honey Motel, Nxdia and Venus Grrrls.
JOY MUMFORD
Joy Mumford opened day 2 at the Spanish Caravan with her soulful harmonies and feel-good groove. Her acoustic set mixed with the sun shining was the perfect summery start to the day.
DEAD DISTANCE
Dead Distance are a gothic indie rock band from Liverpool. Late last year, they supported Pet Needs at their show in The Arts Club Loft, this time they played The Shipping Forecast. They’ve just released their first single ‘Catfish‘, which they performed today as well as a bag of unreleased songs.
YEE LOI
Yee Loi is a rock band of two sisters, they were joined by their brother on bass for their set at The Arts Club Loft. They have so much energy and a great stage presence, I really like the song ‘Dad’s Money‘.
FLAT PARTY
London based alternative rock band Flat Party packed out the Kazimier Stockroom and put on a sweaty show. Their song ‘I’m Bored, Give Me Love’ makes me want to dance around and scream the lyrics.
HONEY MOTEL
Merseyside four piece Honey Motel impressed festival goers when they took to The Arts Club Loft for their late afternoon performance. An impressive group who took ownership of the intimate stage, definitely check out tracks like ‘The Matinee’
NXDIA
Nxdia is an indie-pop singer and songwriter originally from Cairo, Egypt but is now based in Manchester. Her music is unique as it has a mix of Arabic and English lyrics and the songs are so beautiful. My favourite song is ‘She Likes a Boy‘ which is her most viral song with over 21 million listens on Spotify.
VENUS GRRRLS
VENUS GRRRLS are an alternative rock band from Leeds. Gigseekr says “From twinkling synth motifs to raspy guitar lines, the girls present the dark yet empowering discourse surrounding their own synergistic experiences.” I am personally a sucker for female fronted bands and these are no exception, they knew how to work the crowd and put on an amazing show. Their song ‘Hex‘ is constantly stuck in my head, it was a great end to a perfect weekend.
